Job description

  • The Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene seeks an adjunct faculty member to deliver high quality learning experiences and education for students in the Master of Science Program. The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching online courses to graduate students. The successful candidate will teach graduate-level courses focusing on adult learning theory, systematic curriculum design, instructional technology, and the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.
  • Delivers high-quality, engaging instruction via online format in the Master of Science in Dental Hygiene program
  • Provides students with an approved syllabus that includes measurable course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria.
  • Design and implement engaging assignments and authentic assessments that demonstrate the real-world applications of application of educational theory to clinical and classroom settings.
  • Uses the University’s learning management system efficiently to manage course content, post syllabus, track assignments and maintain transparent, timely communication and grading feedback to students.
  • Advises and assists students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms.
  • Incorporate CODA standards into course content and course activities so ensure students understand how to map competency, aspects of tracking and managing data to be in compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Guide and support students in ethical and transparent use of artificial intelligence (AI) in generating and refining aspects of course activities and assignments while ensuring academic integrity.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications

Required

  • Entry-level degree in an accredited dental hygiene or other dental profession.
  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Dental Hygiene, Education, Health Professions, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical patient care experience in a dental setting.
  • Minimum of 5 years of documented experience teaching in an accredited dental professions program, with a proven track record in educational methodology and online course design.
  • Direct, hands-on experience with CODA self-study preparation and active participation in at least one official CODA site visit, ideally as a program director.
  • Participation in curriculum development and participation in a curriculum committee at the program or institutional level.
  • Commitment to education and student success.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and external constituents, including healthcare industry professionals).
  • Active membership and involvement with the American Dental Education Association preferred.
