- Type: Part-Time/Hourly JOB SUMMARY Bellarmine has an exciting and dynamic opportunity for a part-time (less than 20 hours per week), weekend swing shift Campus Safety Officer to join our community. Under the direction of the Dean of Student Health and Wellness or their designee, provide security, safety and community services to the students, faculty, staff and visitors on the Bellarmine campus. The role requires a strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and a commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment.
Schedule
- This position typically works weekend afternoon/evening shifts, generally 12:00
- PM - 8:00
- PM or 2:00
- PM - 10:00 PM, depending on campus activities and events. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide campus-wide safety and security services for the campus community. Provide patrol presence to prevent, deter and respond to campus safety and emergency incidents. Provide crime prevention education and safety information to the campus community. Provide first responder services and coordination for criminal, fire, medical, and safety-hazard incidents that may occur on campus property. Provide parking information and perform parking enforcement duties on campus property. Support compliance with access control procedures (e.g., gates, locks, keys, codes, etc.) Support school administrators regarding specific security concerns affecting normal operations. Utilize effective communication and de-escalation techniques to resolve conflict. Perform hourly inspections of campus buildings, including locking and unlocking entry doors and checking authorized building uses. Enforce all Bellarmine Campus policies, student conduct regulations, and applicable state, federal, and local laws to ensure the campus community's health and safety. Operate camera surveillance equipment. Operate two-way radio, monitor and respond to communications via radio, text, email and phone. Inspect, clean, organize, maintain, and properly store equipment and supplies. Present a professional image in your appearance, speech, and behavior. Uniform and safety gear provided. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES High school diploma/GED Must pass a criminal background check Prior experience in security, safety, military, law enforcement, or school environment preferred. Ability to communicate effectively, in both oral and written form, including use of two-way radio. Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgement in emergency or high-stress situations. Demonstrated ability to use de-escalation techniques and interact professionally with students, parents, staff, and visitors. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Ability to assist in emergency situations, which may include supporting or aiding individuals in distress. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including rain, cold, and heat. Visual and auditory ability sufficient to monitor surveillance equipment, observe surroundings, and respond to alarms and radio communications.
