Job description
Role Summary The Assistant Teacher supports a preschool classroom by keeping learning organized, safe, and responsive to each child’s developmental needs. You will back up the lead teacher as needed and help maintain consistent routines for children and families.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain active supervision and support social-emotional growth
- Help implement curriculum and classroom activities, including outdoor instruction
- Communicate respectfully with families; attend conferences and home visits
- Participate in staff meetings, coaching, and required trainings
- Complete classroom documentation accurately and on time
Required qualifications/skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; 1+ year with infants/toddlers
- Infant/toddler CDA (offered onsite; must be earned within 15 months)
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft; online assessment tools; Teams/Zoom)
- Valid NYS driver’s license, reliable transportation; able to lift 50 lbs and work at children’s level

- Typical Workday You’ll work onsite in Kingston, NY (12401) on a set schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
- The day follows a steady classroom rhythm—arriving, setting up materials, moving through planned activities, meals, outdoor time, and transitions.
- You’ll coordinate closely with the lead teacher and other staff so the classroom stays on track.
- Some days include scheduled family touchpoints, conferences, or home visits, and you may have staff meetings, coaching check-ins, or trainings built into the week.
