Job description

The Student Success Department is seeking a highly motivated and organized Student Success Academic Support Specialist in Pre-Nursing to join our team. This full-time position is part of the Student Success team and is responsible for advising, coaching and onboarding new healthcare students.

  • Job purpose
  • The Academic Support Specialist will advise and support all pre-declared students, especially in the areas of pre-healthcare.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages an advising caseload of first-year and undeclared second-year students in individual and group meetings using a common skills-based advising pathway program and calendar model.
  • Assists Academic Coaches with the academic component of Marlin Nation Orientation, which includes working with other departments across campus to build events, assigning students to coaches, and extracting student data to build schedules.
  • Oversee onboarding process for new healthcare students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in a higher education advising-related field with one to two years of comparable experience, especially in the health care field.
  • Knowledge of majors and curriculum, general education and graduation requirements, and academic policy, especially in the healthcare fields
  • Experience in working with the unique needs of students transitioning to college.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with academic coaches, students, and consult with faculty and campus administrators.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and provide fastidious attention to detail.
  • Possess technology skills to use college reporting systems for advising, selecting courses, and tracking student progress.
