Job Title: Daily Substitute School Nurse

Department: Academics

Reports To: Director of Student Services

Payroll Status: Temporary, Part-time, Hourly Rate, Non-Exempt

PURPOSE

The Daily Substitute School Nurse will provide a safe and welcoming environment while assisting students in maintaining optimal health for effective learning.

Essential functions

Establish, review and maintain school medical and health policies and procedures within the department

Provide first-aid, medical care and services to students according to physician prescribed care and treatment orders. Create and maintain documentation of medical treatment plans, treatments performed, and all other medical services provided

Maintain student immunization and other medical records; follow confidentiality and privacy rules and regulations

Confer with students, parents and faculty regarding medical treatment and student health, while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Coordinate with local health agencies and medical treatment facilities as necessary.

Respond to emergency medical situations; perform first aid and/or emergency treatments as indicated/needed; coordinate with local emergency personnel and agencies as required.

Manage non-medical personnel who may also provide services in the school clinic.

Provide dining service personnel with accurate detailed information on individual student and employee food allergies and intolerances. Liaison with parents and dining service personnel as necessary.

Maintain inventory of supplies and materials needed in the clinic and elsewhere on campus.

Maintain AEDs.

Ensure required clinic cleaning and sanitization procedures are followed.

Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by Head of School, Director of Student Services, Principal, or the Director of Finance & Operations.

Qualifications

  • Candidate is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) or Nurse Practitioner (NP). State licensing requirements must be met and maintained annually.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Familiarity with Magnus or other electronic student medical record systems
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality with all student and employee medical information.
  • Ability to communicate successfully – both written and verbal - with all constituents including parents, students, faculty administration.
  • Ability to successfully and professionally interact with all personality types and levels of management, and to work effectively as part of an institutional and management team.
  • Computer competency with basic word processing, spreadsheet, internet applications and database management.

Requirements

  • Tasks involve the regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of walking, climbing, balancing, stopping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling 20-50 pound objects and materials.
  • May be required to lift or move an injured or sick person.
  • May be accidentally exposed to blood and body fluids and pathological substances.
  • Work environment is a traditional climate controlled office with average noise levels.
  • Will be required to file in both low and high file drawers.
