Position overview
The After School Caregiver Substitute provides on-call support for the After 3 Program by filling in for regularly scheduled caregivers during absences or periods of increased staffing need. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, engaging, and supportive after-school environment for students while maintaining compliance with all licensing and program requirements. The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, and able to accept assignments on short notice across multiple campuses.
- Key responsibilities
- Supervise students to ensure safety, well-being, and appropriate behavior at all times
- Assist with implementing age-appropriate and After 3 curriculum activities
- Support homework completion and academic reinforcement
- Promote positive behavior, teamwork, and respectful interactions
- Follow all safety procedures, emergency protocols, and behavior management practices
- Conduct headcounts and maintain required child-to-staff ratios
- Complete attendance records, incident reports, and required documentation
- Provide coverage at assigned sites, including last-minute or same-day assignments
Qualifications

- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Previous child care, youth development, or afterschool experience preferred
- Must successfully pass background checks for Texas Child Care Licensing and SBISD
- Current Child/Infant/Pediatric CPR, AED, and First Aid certification from an in-person, instructor-led course required
- Strong communication, teamwork, and classroom management skills
- Availability Monday–Friday from 2:00 p.m. to at least 6:00 p.m., including last-minute availability
- Must have reliable personal transportation to travel to assigned campuses
- Work schedule
- Part-time, on-call substitute position
- Shifts occur during after-school hours (typically 2:00–6:00/6:30 p.m.) and on early dismissal days typically (10:30 am-1:30/2:00 pm)
