The substitute teacher is responsible for implementing lesson plans and maintaining an orderly classroom environment in the absence of full-time teachers. They must ensure student safety and productivity while overseeing activities in various school areas including the cafeteria and playground.

Job Description

At Kehoe-France Northshore and International Schools Partnerships, we are committed to the well-being and protection of minors. Kehoe-France recognizes its role in safeguarding children as our primary concern. All staff of the school are considered by Louisiana state law as ‘mandated reporters’ who must report any and all allegations of abuse that are shared with them.

Job summary

The job of substitute teacher at Kehoe-France Northshore is to take over for full-time teachers or assistants in their absence, carrying out their lesson plans and ensuring students have a fulfilling classroom experience.

Essential functions

  • Maintain schedule availability to accept opportunities that arise
  • Uphold an orderly classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience
  • Familiarize yourself with emergency protocols, such as fire drills and lockdowns
  • Carry out lesson plan instructions from the classroom teacher
  • Take attendance according to school procedure
  • Create and maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and productive learning environment in accordance with school policies
  • Complete a report form, including absences, progress with lesson plan, positive experiences, etc. for the teacher
  • Oversee students outside of the classroom, including in the hallways, cafeteria, and playground
  • Comply with all school regulations and policies at all times
  • Ensure the classroom and work stations are kept clean and orderly
  • Oversee the normal classroom rhythms and activities

Physical requirements

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, squatting, pushing, and/or pulling. Generally the job requires sitting, walking, and standing.

Minimum qualifications

High School Diploma

This position is conditional to the provision of federal criminal background checks covering the countries that you have lived and worked in for the last 10 years and any convictions highlighted will be reviewed against standard Safeguarding principles of working with children. All checks requested to be received prior to commencement of employment.
