Pre-K lead teacher
Essential job functions
Under the general supervision of the preschool administrators, and with the help of an assistant teacher, provides a stimulating, safe and developmentally appropriate educational environment for preschool children. Prepares lesson plans, documents children’s progress, conducts conferences and an Open House for parents, attends various programming activities and maintains classroom space and supplies in orderly condition.
Key responsibilities
- (include, but not limited to)
- Lesson plans that reflect the planning and implementing of developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum in accordance with the philosophy and identified curriculum objectives of the JCC
- Supervises children in the classroom; provides a supportive environment in which children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors
- Ensures the children’s safety in the classroom and outside on the playground
- Maintains open and cooperative communication with parents and families encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child’s family relationships
- Maintains confidentiality for children, staff and parents
- Compiles and writes individual assessments of each child’s development; maintains daily attendance records and other related reports
- Conducts at least two regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences a year with additional conferences, as needed
- Attends Preschool staff meetings and professional development
- Supports and participates in JCC/Federation and Parent Association activities, when appropriate
- Complies with all state and county child care regulations
- Works well with assistant teacher and other staff members
- Maintains positive attitude towards work, coworkers, children and families
- Leads activities based on the JCC Preschool Guide to Learning and Development
Position requirements
VPK teacher credential is preferred but can be obtained upon hiring if necessary. Applicant must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with parents, teachers and other staff. Applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Word and email. All staff should be professional in dress, appearance and speech.
Physical requirements
Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds and do the position as physically required—including, but not limited to helping children on and off a diapering table, lifting children who may need comforting or may not feel well, etc. Must be able to stand on the playground for 30-45 minutes, supervising children.
