  • Child and Youth Advisor - Position Overview
  • The Child and Youth Advisor is responsible for maintaining a climate conducive to the nurturing and growth needs of clients served.
  • They will act as the adult role model who participates in the activities of daily living with the clients, providing a safe and consistent environment.

  • Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, lifting, talking, seeing, hearing, repetitive motions.
  • Must have the physical ability to assist in the physical or therapeutic hold of youth when required, following organization approved safety protocols.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach clients, when and where appropriate activities of daily living, social skills, conflict resolution, and independent living skills.
  • Act as a positive role model in a trauma informed manner in each interaction with clients and families.
  • Provide ongoing supervision of clients.
  • Provide for the physical needs and emotional support of clients.
  • Handle all "crisis" situations and pro-actively de-escalate out of control behavior daily; notify appropriate on-call staff.
  • Monitor clients' self-administration of medication and document accordingly.
  • Bring to the attention of the House Manager any unusual problems, behaviors, attitudinal changes, illnesses, peer and staff relationships, physical and/or emotional support of clients.
  • Provide documentation in the areas of daily log, shift notes, incident reports, transportation logs, and other areas as directed.
  • Help facilitate a supportive team approach to the treatment of the clients.
  • Participate in Staff Meetings and Continuous Quality Improvement.
  • Answer incoming calls; respond professionally and politely to all callers. Route calls to the appropriate individual and take messages as needed.
  • Provide transportation for clients as needed for appointments, etc.
  • Perform housekeeping and cooking duties.
  • Accurately maintain petty cash receipts, charge slips, transportation expenses, etc. and turn into the office staff

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) years' experience in the caring of children preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Mississippi driver's license.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with children and adolescents.
