- We are looking for the best talent to work in our in-community weekly therapeutic services as a Mental Health Therapist Intern. The program assists individuals with behavior modification and gaining socialization skills, and adaptive modalities necessary to function successfully in the home and community. This position is the face of the organization and individuals in this role have a daily impact on improving the quality of life for the individuals served as they provide 1:1 direct behavior analysis services in home and community settings. Clinicians will provide services utilizing assigned Treatment Plans and Positive Behavior Supports. Key Responsibilities
- Shadowing IIC Cases
- Submission of internship or practicum requirements (how are hours being tracked & shadowing requirements, etc…)
- Provide individual in-home therapy sessions or group therapy sessions in our outpatient center.
- Provide anger management, coping, and social skills and reduce high-risk behaviors such as SIB or physical aggression.
- Work to improve youth and caretaker decision-making skills to manage in-home behavioral challenges.
- Collaborate effectively and consistently with the Child Family Treatment Team and/or professionals from other disciplines who also work to support the youth and family.
- Submit all required documentation within designated time frames (intake, treatment plan, progress notes), etc.
- Attend monthly meetings and submit recommendations.
- Participate in required clinical training.
- Ensure all agency policies are implemented and followed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree Program for Counseling, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology or related field.
- Completed Practicum or enrolled in an internship for a Master’s Degree Program in one of the above fields of study
- Has Clinical Mental Health Training
- Has some training or willing to complete Crisis Intervention Training
- Has post-internship field experience working with youth with disabilities with clinical experience
- Has experience with creating treatment planning, treatment goals setting, progress notes, and initial assessments.
- Has experience in various counseling approaches: CBT, REBT, Gestalt, DBT, and Trauma Response
- Knows how to use the DSM-V for Assessments and Diagnosis
- Must be available for a minimum 5-10 hours per week during after-school hours of 4-7 pm. Weekend flexibility is a plus.
- Must have experience providing positive behavior support.
- Must have prior experience working with children ages 3-20 and children with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) a plus.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a registered vehicle.
- Must pass a criminal background check, inclusive of fingerprinting.
- Must submit resume plus copies of master’s degree, with a copy of NJ or Certification or License.
- Bilingual is a plus (Spanish, Portuguese, Creole)
Note
State Reciprocity is considered but the candidate needs to be no more than 25-30 minutes commute to the designated service areas. The license must be registered with the NJ Marriage & Family Therapy Board (i.e., PA & NJ).
