Overview Life Skills Specialist Pay range

Do you thrive in a hands-on role where you can teach and model essential skills such as personal hygiene, nutrition, routines, and wellness practices? Join our team at OPI Houston as a Life Skills Specialist and make a meaningful impact supporting young adults as they develop daily living skills, social skills, and emotional regulation. In this role, you’ll work in a supportive, mission - driven behavioral health environment using person - centered, relationship - based approaches to promote independence, community integration, and long - term success. Responsibilities

Facilitate and manage life skills classes such as implementing healthy habits, managing personal space, money management, and time management Identify individual skill deficits and create personalized teaching opportunities to build independence and daily living skills Utilize client assessments to develop and reinforce healthy habits, routines, and independent living skills Provide direct support through one-on-one and small group interactions, fostering engagement, growth, and confidence Use structured teaching strategies and quality instructional techniques to scaffold life skills development and milestones Observe, assess, and actively teach life skills through hands-on instruction, modeling, and real-life experiences

Qualifications

Age: 21 years of age or older Education: Bachelors Degree in Education, Mental Health, Occupational Therapy, or related discipline. Experience in working with at-risk youth or young adults. Previous experience teaching, coaching, or training individuals in life skills, education, behavioral health, or similar settings preferred High level of communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain concepts, actively listen, and build trust with diverse populations Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage, motivate, and support individuals in both one-on-one and group settings Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping others develop independence and confidence Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team Skilled in teaching and motivating young adults. Must pass pre-employment drug screen and federal and state background check in concordance with Texas state laws.
