  • Position: The Academic Interventionist is responsible for providing high-quality literacy and math learning experiences to students identified as at-risk or struggling as part of Tier 2 targeted intervention.
  • Under the guidance of: Instructional Specialist/Curriculum Specialist Responsibilities/Duties Implements scientific-based reading and math research strategies to enable students to develop the competencies and skills to be successful in reading and math. Identifies student needs through pre and post assessments. Provides small group instruction designed to motivate and meet the individual needs of students. Establishes and maintains standards of classroom management required to achieve effective participation in all activities. Evaluates academic growth of students through administering pre and post assessments and tracking weekly progress. Communicates student progress with teachers, curriculum specialists and administrators in order to help guide intervention and classroom instruction for individual students. Attends and assists with Intervention Team or SST meetings as needed. Qualifications Education Must possess an earned Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university. Must have successfully completed at least 30 units of coursework related to instruction, learning differences or child development (may have been part of the earned Bachelor’s degree program). Certifications Must pass criminal background check Must show proof of negative TB test results Must complete CPR/First Aide certification and Child Abuse training within 30 days of employment Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics Possess a general knowledge of instruction. Ability to conduct reading and math assessments as well as to gather and analyze data. Ability to use technology in the teaching/learning process.
  • Ability to utilize basic keyboarding skills and software skills (eg: Microsoft Word and Excel). Possession of patience, flexibility and the ability to work well as a collaborative team member. Physical ability to bend over, stand and sit for periods of time. Reliable transportation to work.

  • Elements: This position may include long periods of sitting or standing in an environment with moderate noise levels, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. This position is frequently required to stand, sit or walk, use hands and fingers and reach with arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to read printed materials and a computer screen with ability to adjust focus. Communication skills required by this job include the ability to hear and speak. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. The position occasionally bends, stoops, reaches, pushes, and pulls drawers to retrieve and file information and lifts and carries items that typically weigh less than 20 pounds. The position requires the ability to occasionally travel by train, plane, or other means inside and outside of the Los Angeles area. May have occasional exposure to irate parents, staff, and public and private representatives.

  • Notice (if applicable): This position is eligible for a signing bonus, paid for in two installments in January and July. Eligibility for each installment requires active employment with ISANA on the payment date. Signing bonuses may be prorated based on start date or unpaid leave status and are subject to applicable taxes. Employees who separate from ISANA prior to the end of a bonus period will not be eligible for that installment.

Final placement is contingent upon verification of prior experience through completion of the required Verification of Experience (VOE) form. Credit for prior experience requires having worked at least 85% of the applicable employment period.
