Job description

Position Summary

The empress ems academy instructor is responsible for the instructional development of academy students, preparing them to successfully pass the new york state emergency medical technician (Emt-B) state exam. Under the general supervision of the course sponsor and the director of clinical education, the instructor organizes, administers, and evaluates the effectiveness of the training curriculum in accordance with all applicable new york state guidelines and protocols.

  • Main duties & responsibilities
  • Ensure all course content adheres to new york state requirements, guidelines, and protocols
  • Prepare and develop course content, lesson plans, and teaching aids — including training handbooks, demonstration models, and multimedia visual aids — to achieve instructional goals
  • Attend all course sessions and deliver lectures or co-Conduct training sessions as needed
  • Participate in the scheduling and coordination of classes, training sessions, supplemental courses, and evaluation meetings in accordance with new york state guidelines
  • Test and evaluate students in accordance with new york state requirements to measure progress and training effectiveness
  • Provide students with course policies, performance feedback, access to remedial or tutoring support, and counseling as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and performance
  • Submit enrollment, attendance, and performance records to the course sponsor administrator (Csa) upon course completion or request
  • Serve as liaison between students, the csa, clinical preceptors, and the new york state department of health, bureau of ems
  • Perform a variety of related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current new york state emt-B or emt-P certification and current cpr certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • Successful completion of all pre-Employment requirements, including drug screening and background check

Work environment

Primarily an indoor classroom setting with occasional exposure to outdoor and hazardous conditions, blood/Body fluids, fumes/Odors, temperature changes, and extended days. Respirator use may be required. The role involves frequent face-To-Face interaction with others and exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment.

Physical requirements

  • The employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk; and to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Must frequently lift and/Or carry up to 125 lbs.
  • Unassisted and up to 300 lbs.
  • As part of a two-Person crew.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
