The Classroom Assistant supports the teacher in conducting instructional activities and maintaining an effective learning environment for children. Responsibilities include supervising children during play and activities, assisting with lesson planning, and maintaining individual student records.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Participates in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning. 2. Conducts learning exercises with small groups of children. 3. Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with other children. 4. Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual children. 5. Provides escort and assistance to children as necessary. 6. Helps maintain individual records for each child. 7. Fosters good eating habits and table manners in children. 8. Assists teacher in maintaining neat work areas. 9. Assists with the supervision of children during regular play periods. 10. Collects and displays suitable material for educational displays. 522A:2 11. Assists with the supervision of children during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips. 12. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about children as is expected of fully licensed teachers. 13. Conforms to dress regulations of the agency. 14. Seeks in-kind contributions. 15. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as requested by the Teacher.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: · Associate Degree in Childhood Education or related field. · Relevant experience preferred. · Understands social and economic background and developmental needs of children and families. · Demonstrates knowledge of overall Head Start goals and philosophy. · Exhibits effective interpersonal and communication skills. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position requires movement, travel, light lifting, work on a computer station, and other standard job requirements. All duties of this position are within the bounds and requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
