The Security Officer maintains a safe campus environment through routine patrols and monitoring access to facilities. They respond to emergencies, enforce college policies, and document incidents in detailed reports.
A High School Diploma or GED and a valid driver's license are required. Preferred qualifications include experience in security or law enforcement and CPR/First Aid certification.
The Security Officer helps maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees, visitors, and campus property. The Security Officer provides a visible security presence, conducts patrols, responds to incidents and emergencies, enforces campus policies, and assists members of the Benedictine College community in a professional and service-oriented manner.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Strong observation and situational awareness skills. Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment during emergencies and stressful situations. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare clear reports. Basic computer proficiency, including email, reporting systems, and standard office software. Ability to interpret and follow College policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
High School Diploma or GED required. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required. Ability to successfully complete required background checks. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts as assigned.
One year of experience in security, campus safety, law enforcement, military service, emergency response, or a related field. CPR, First Aid, or AED certification. Experience working in a higher education environment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to walk, stand, and patrol for extended periods of time. Ability to climb stairs and navigate campus buildings and grounds. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 35 pounds. Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a college campus environment. Security Officers may be exposed to varying weather conditions, noise levels, and emergency situations requiring prompt response and sound judgment.
