Salem College, an NCAA Division III member institution and member of the USA South Athletic Conference, is seeking a passionate, energetic, and student-centered individual to serve as a Volunteer Assistant Track & Field Pole Vault Coach. This position will assist the Head Women's Track & Field Coach in all aspects of coaching the Pole Vault events and contribute to the continued growth and success of the program. The Volunteer Assistant Pole Vault Coach will play a key role in student-athlete development, practice planning, meet preparation, and fostering a positive and competitive team culture. The successful candidate will possess a strong knowledge of throwing events and a commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy, which emphasizes the overall educational experience of student-athletes. Key Responsibilities: Assist with coaching and instruction of all Pole Vault Events. Develop and implement event-specific training plans and technical instruction. Assist with practice planning, organization, and daily operations of the track & field program. Provide mentorship and support for student-athletes both athletically and personally. Assist with meet preparation, travel, and competition-day coaching. Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, accountability, and personal growth. Support compliance with NCAA Division III, USA South Athletic Conference, and Salem College policies and procedures. Assist with equipment management and facility upkeep related to the throws area. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Track & Field Coach. Ability to drive a 15-passenger van to games. QualificationsRequired Qualifications · HS Diploma required (bachelor’s degree Preferred) · Previous playing and/or coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level preferred · Strong knowledge of fundamentals, strategies, and player development · Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills · Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends · Commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion Compensation: This is a volunteer position and does not include monetary compensation. However, the position may provide valuable coaching experience, networking opportunities, and potential professional development within collegiate athletics. Additional Expectations: Uphold the mission and values of Salem College Demonstrate professionalism and integrity in all interactions Support the holistic development and well-being of student-athletes Physical Functions While performing the responsibilities of the Volunteer Assistant Track & Field- Pole Vault Coach the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
