Job description

Journey Community Schools (JCS) is a Tennessee non-profit corporation serving scholars in grades kindergarten through 8th grade at our Coleman School, East Academy, and Northeast Academy campuses. Our Mission is to engage families and community partners in our scholars' learning journey; cultivate a safe, positive and joyous learning environment; and empower teachers and leaders with support to deliver an inclusive, innovative and rigorous education. What You Will Do

  • Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief of Paving Pathways to Success for all scholars and teammates
  • Design, develop, and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with Tennessee State Standards and JCS Instructional Pacing Guides Guidelines
  • Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their growth and development
  • Communicate regularly with families and involve families as partners in their child’s education
  • Adapt instructional materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching practices and stay current with educational trends
  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction using a variety of teaching strategies and techniques

    • Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
    • Master’s Degree preferred
    • Licensure
    • Requirements:
    • Valid teaching license and endorsement in the hired content area with the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) or a valid teaching license and endorsement from a state that offers reciprocity with Tennessee
    • Experience
    • Requirements:
    • At least one year working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or teaching assistant preferred
    • Experience and data to prove effectiveness working with K‐5 students, particularly those reading two or more years behind grade level
