Classical Charter Schools of Wilmington, located in Wilmington, NC is hiring for part-time Substitute Teacher. Classical Charter Schools of Wilmington serves students in grades K-8. We are seeking outstanding applications for Substitute Teachers.

Job Description

– Fulfillment of Mission The Roger Bacon Academy is an education management organization that manages multiple charter schools. The following mission outlines the expectations of all employees at the school level as well as employees of The Roger Bacon Academy in providing support to the schools. Our understandings of humankind and our universe are expressed and communicated through all of our arts and sciences. Each method of expression – language, painting, music, mathematics, and science – has its rules and techniques for effectively communicating these ideas and understandings. These rules and techniques are the bridges over which ideas must be communicated from one generation to the next. Thus, our Mission is: To teach the rules and techniques for effective expression and communication in the arts and sciences. To communicate, by these arts and sciences, our understandings of the universe and our role in it. To instill a love of learning and discovery justifying a lifelong dedication to health, truth, and virtue. Paramount for every job at every level on every campus is the fulfillment of this Mission.

Job Priorities This Mission is furthered in accordance with the priorities observed in all aspects of school life: Safety, Character, and Scholarship and in unfailing adherence to the School Pledge. Substitute Teacher– Job Responsibilities To assist the Content Teacher, Assistant Teacher, or to teach in successfully preparing students with the knowledge and strategies they will need in order to master the curriculum and achieve a passing score on standardized tests. To also help students learn skills that will contribute to their social development. Key Areas of Responsibility: Day to Day Substitutes:

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with morning drop off and afternoon pickup if required. As students arrive, encourage promptness in unpacking their backpack, turning in homework, turning in notes to teacher and hot lunch money. Communicate with parents as needed in the event of an injury or behavior incident. Accompany student to the office to take temperature or to call parent if the student is not feeling well. Take students to and from their daily resources (i.e. art, p.e., music, computer lab). Monitor behavior on the playground during recess. Grade papers and record grades in the grade book at the direction of the teacher. Monitor students during class time to ensure they are on task and focused on the lesson being given. Assist students as needed with class work assignments. Encourage and reward positive behavior. Make copies of various items needed for instruction. Share responsibility with teacher of vacuuming the classroom and taking out the trash. Substitute in other classrooms of the same grade or a different grade as requested by the office or trainers. Monitor students during assemblies. Share responsibility with teacher to ensure all children are evacuated and accounted for during a fire drill. Share responsibility with teacher to ensure all children are in proper posture and accounted for during a tornado drill. Share responsibility with teacher to ensure all safeguards are in place during a lock down. Share responsibility with teacher to alert maintenance of items that need attention in the classroom/playground. Share responsibility with teacher to ensure that all items are completed on checklists for the classroom, given before all breaks and at the end of the school year. Attend required training. Remain flexible and positive for any given assignment. Long Term Substitutes:

Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to the above items, long term substitutes must: Grade papers and record grades in the grade book at the direction of the teacher. Process hot lunch money and order hot lunch on a weekly basis if required. Process paperwork and money for field trips. Process paperwork for school pictures, income surveys, immunization forms, and various other items that have been sent home for information and returned. Other Duties: The position of Substitute Teacher reports to the grade level teacher and administrators.

Qualifications

The Substitute Teacher will have the following experience and attributes: A High School Diploma is required. An Associates degree or higher is preferred with a focus in education and early childhood development desired. Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment. Ability to perform clerical duties. Ability to operate common office machines. Ability to maintain basic files and records. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitates by work assignments. Physical ability to lift/carry 20 lbs. and dexterity to perform the duties & responsibilities of the job.
