Provide support in planning and preparing classroom activities while maintaining a clean and safe environment for children. Assist teachers and therapists with therapeutic objectives and provide basic care, including feeding and diapering.
Requires a high school diploma and specific vaccinations (T.B., TDap, Hepatitis B). Experience working with toddlers with developmental disabilities is desired, along with a valid driver's license and the ability to lift 40 pounds.
Provide assistance in the planning and preparation of classroom activities with recognition of the present levels of development of the children. Organize and clean classroom and therapy materials and equipment. Set up chairs and adaptive equipment for classroom and therapy participation. Know, understand, and reinforce the teachers’ and therapists’ objectives to support therapeutic activities within the classroom and therapy. Know, understand, and reinforce appropriate individualized positive reinforcement. Promote self-esteem and independence in the children. Treat families with respect, promoting parent involvement in the classroom when appropriate. Independently maintain a learning environment in the classroom when the teacher is absent. Change diapers. Provide assistance in feeding objectives during snack programs. Maintain a clean and safe classroom and therapy environment. Wash and dry bibs, blankets, and other classroom equipment as assigned. Provide relief to Administrative Assistant for breaks, vacation, and sick leave. Perform other related duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibility: None Required Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of HIPAA and FERPA requirements/regulations. Knowledge and familiarity with applicable day care guidelines and regulations. Strong customer service skills. Basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications. Excellent organizational skills. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills. Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment effectively. Education, Certifications and Position Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience working with toddlers with developmental disabilities or delays, desirable. T.B. Test, proof of TDap Immunization, and Hepatitis B vaccinations. Environmental Factors: Valid driver's license and vehicle with proof of insurance. Ability to lift or carry up to 40 pounds regularly. Indoors, sedentary up to 7 hours/day sitting or standing and up to 4 hours/day keyboarding. Ability to navigate client sites (unpaved walkways, stairs, narrow hallways, etc.) on a regular basis. Ability to bend, twist, stoop on a regular basis.
