Classroom Teacher Assistant Job Compensation

• $15.93 to $19.24 / Per Hour (depending on experience).

Classroom Teacher Assistant Job Responsibilities

Active Supervision of Children

  • Ensure children are supervised by sight and sound at all times as stated in the UMOS Supervision Handbook. Ensure all others working in classroom comply with Supervision procedures.
  • Comply with and enforce UMOS Active Supervision Policy and Procedures of children by ensuring, including but not limited to, use appropriate name to face counts, and maintaining appropriate teacher to child ratios and group sizes.
  • Responsible for overall safety, sanitation, and cleanliness of classroom at all times.
  • Maintain that both classroom and playground are well organized and free from clutter at all times.
  • Ensure safe working environment and follow all agency safety procedures and reporting.

Educational program

  • Provide under the Teacher supervision provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily plan in accordance with assigned UMOS curriculum, policies, and procedures.
  • Work in collaboration with Classroom Teacher to schedule, complete and track all required home visits/conferences, developmental screenings, ongoing assessments, collection and timely online entry of classroom observations and documentations, completion of ongoing assessment finalization checkpoints for all children in the classroom within the specified time frame for each event.
  • Work with the classroom teacher in using those results to create/update individualized plans with parents to address each child’s needs and track child’s progress. The Assistant Teacher will assist the teacher in the completion of required reports on children and classroom activities.
  • This includes documents such as: the child roster/absentee/tracking form, Active Supervision Process, Meal Count form, Classroom Child File, Case Notes, and developmental screenings and assessments.
  • Assistant Teacher assistant will also work with the classroom teacher in the setup, maintenance, and daily preparation/clean-up of both the indoor and outdoor environments.

  • Comply with deadlines established for completion of daily and weekly tasks as assigned by the Center Manager, Education Coordinator, and all other content areas as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Special Needs Facilitator(s) to help understand identified Special Needs children, to individualize each child’s needs and goals as needed. And will seek clarification for any aspects that are not well understood.
  • Establish behavioral strategies in conjunction with Education Coordinator, Teacher, and Special Needs Facilitator for any child with behavioral challenges that impede his/her learning experience.
  • Working with families and children

    • Communicate professionally and effectively with all families and children daily. Examples include but are not limited to red bag notebooks, visit/conference forms, and parent notifications.
    • Communicate with and respond to individual children during activities and routine by communicating with children at eye level, using appropriate tone of voice and modeling and questioning to extending children’s thinking and language.
    • Use and model positive guidance techniques with all children in accordance with UMOS policies and procedures and Department of Children and Families Abuse and Neglect Training.
    • Ensure mandated reporter guidelines are followed at all times.
    • Recognize and celebrate cultural diversity into daily routines and engage families to contribute to and participate in multicultural activities regularly.
    • Establish and maintain professional interactions and relationship of respect, mutual trust, and collaboration with families and all staff.
    • Assist to conduct a minimum of two (2) home visits with each family in accordance with CRT established timelines.

    Child and Adult Food Care Program

    • Ensure compliance to the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) as outlined by program standards. Ensure all others working in the classroom are in compliance.
    • Ensure CACFP guidelines are met for all meals including but not limited to, point of service meal counts, meal portions, and family meal style service.

    Health and Safety

    • The Assistant Teacher will follow health and safety policies and procedures including but not limited to storage of poisonous and hazardous materials, conduct health and safety checklists, daily child observation, diapering/toileting/handwashing, injury/accident prevention, child accident reports, sanitizing, cleaning, and universal precautions.
    • The Assistant Teacher will work with the teacher to always maintain positive guidance and behavioral management techniques. Such examples include but are not limited to the strategic set up of the classroom, use of limit signs, classroom rules, guiding children's acquisition of social skills, positive behavior statements and reinforcement of approved social emotional curriculum and resources.
    • The Assistant Teacher will report suspected child abuse and neglect per state law and UMOS policies and procedures.
    • The Assistant Teacher will communicate with bus driver/monitor any information to be shared with child’s parents or guardians about daily activities, behaviors and related issues as well as assisting in loading and unloading the children on the bus.

    Other Duties

    • The Assistant Teacher will attend all staff meetings, trainings, in-service trainings, and center activities as assigned by the Center Manager.
    • The Assistant Teacher will submit all requested and/or required documentation that is legible, accurate, and on time.
    • The Assistant Teacher will perform other duties as assigned.
    • The Assistant Teacher will work in conjunction with the classroom teacher to generate and collect non-federal share (In-kind). Examples include but are not limited to the creating, sending, and collecting home activities and scheduling classroom volunteers.
    • The Assistant Teacher will assist the classroom teacher to complete and submit all required documents for in kind.

    Classroom Teacher Assistant Job Qualifications

    • Be 18 years of age or older.
    • Possess a Child Development Associate credential or state-awarded certificate that meets/exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential or be enrolled in a CDA program immediately upon acceptance of position and enroll in a program that will lead to and AA or BA.
    • Some Child Care experience is preferred.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills. Preferred Bilingual in Spanish and English (oral and written).
    • Must have basic computer skills to include, but not limited to, data entry and internet.
    • Have reliable transportation; hold a valid driver's license and adequate car insurance.
    • Work flexible, irregular hours with some travel.
    • Additional Eligibility Requirements Employment with UMOS is contingent upon successful completion of:
    • Criminal background check prior to employment.
    • Physical exam and TB test showing absence of Tuberculosis within 30 days of employment.
    • Approved Shaken Baby Training prior to working with children.
    • Fire Extinguisher Training.
    • Infant/Child CPR and First Aid within 30 days of employment.
    • Submittal of all relevant educational documentation at the time of application.
    • My Teaching Strategies training or online training modules and become reliable in MyTeaching Strategies within 30 days.
    • Preschool Staff Only – CLASS testing modules within 30 days of completing CLASS training.
    • Must register and provide proof of register in Wisconsin or Missouri childcare registry within 30 days of employment.
