About the Role
- The Reading Interventionist for Middle School plays a critical role in supporting students who struggle with reading by providing targeted, evidence-based instruction designed to improve literacy skills.
- This position focuses on assessing individual student needs, developing personalized intervention plans, and delivering specialized reading instruction to help students achieve grade-level proficiency.
- The interventionist collaborates closely with classroom teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed.
- By fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment, the role aims to build students' confidence and motivation in reading.
- Ultimately, the Reading Interventionist contributes to closing achievement gaps and promoting long-term academic success for middle school students.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, Special Education, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification or licensure appropriate for middle school education in the United States.
- Demonstrated knowledge of reading development, assessment tools, and intervention strategies.
- Experience working with middle school students in an educational setting.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Reading, Literacy, Special Education, or a related discipline.
- Certification as a Reading Specialist or equivalent credential.
- Experience with Response to Intervention (RTI) frameworks and data-driven instruction.
- Familiarity with diverse learning needs, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and literacy software to support instruction.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students' reading strengths and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement individualized reading intervention plans based on assessment data and best practices.
- Provide small group and one-on-one instruction tailored to students' specific literacy needs.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate intervention strategies and support general education curriculum.
- Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instructional approaches to maximize effectiveness.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress and strategies to support reading development at home.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with research-based reading interventions and instructional techniques.
- Maintain accurate records of student assessments, interventions, and outcomes.

- The Reading Interventionist utilizes assessment and diagnostic skills daily to identify students' reading challenges and strengths, enabling the creation of effective, individualized intervention plans.
