  • WORK SCHEDULE: Up to twenty hours per week, including occasional evening/weekend assignments as required by the department.
  • Teaching on two clinical days.
  • Other time includes making patient/student assignments, student conference meetings, collaborating with faculty and clinical colleagues for student placements, record keeping, grading reports, and school meetings.
  • The Instructor in Nursing, in collaboration with other faculty plans, evaluates clinical instruction in campus and clinical laboratories.
  • Supports an academic and non-academic milieu in the school conducive to effective student learning and personal development.
  • Acts within the defined philosophy and framework of the diploma nursing program.
  • Contributes to the development and advancement of the nursing profession and nursing practice.
  • JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Creates a positive milieu in the clinical and campus laboratory and the nursing program that fosters student learning and development.
  • Evaluates student learning outcomes in various units of clinical instruction.
  • Evaluates student clinical performance in accordance with established standards defined by the course faculty and the school.
  • Establishes positive faculty-student relationships with effective communications in formal and informal contacts.
  • Assumes clinical teaching assignment workload per nursing program policy.
  • Utilizes current clinical nursing research applicable to area of teaching.
  • Participates in activities promoting the nursing program and school.
  • Serves as a professional role model for students and staff.
  • Supports a learning community within the nursing program.
  • Implements the program philosophy, conceptual framework, and instructional plan to insure integrity of the curriculum.

  • Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
  • OTHER FUNCTIONS: Participates in orientation of new students.
  • Assigns clinical course grades and records.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Clinical instruction may require walking up to six hours per day and potentially two hours consecutively and may require standing for one hour.
  • Continuously expected to use fingers and hands, handle items and carry up to ten pounds.
  • Frequently expected to climb stairs or ladder, reach above shoulder level, lift, push, or carry up to ten pounds.
  • Occasionally required to firmly grasp objects, be able to maintain squat or crouch position, or lift or push up to 100 pounds; rarely required to twist and turn fingers and hands; or carry greater than IO pounds.
  • Sensory requirements include touching and perceiving attributes of objects; hearing as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies; general vision, near and far, color, peripheral vision and depth perception, and adequate olfactory function.
  • POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS: Cuts and punctures: caution should be taken when assigned to risk areas.
  • Assault and battery: security department is available for assistance.
  • Radiation exposure and chemical and biological hazards: gloves and protective aprons available.
  • MOST COMPLEX DUTY: Plans, implements, and evaluates clinical instruction in campus and clinical laboratories, while supporting an academic and non-academic milieu in the school conducive to effective student learning and personal development, despite multiple interruptions.
  • SUPERVISION (RECEIVED BY AND/OR GIVEN TO): Supervision received from Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs.
  • Works under the direction of an experienced faculty instructor.
  • Gives supervision to students assigned to faculty for instructional purposes.
  • COMMUNICATIONS: Effective verbal and written communication required with other faculty, administration, hospital personnel, visitors, and external professional agencies.
  • Maintenance of positive relationship with students and professional staff essential.
  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Current registered nurse license in Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey as appropriate.
  • Maintenance of clinical competence as registered nurse.
  • Represents the School in a positive manner.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Master's Degree in area of nursing specialization preferred.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required, with a plan for obtaining a graduate degree in nursing within 5 years of initial appointment.
  • TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years RN clinical experience in area of master's degree specialization.
  • Demonstrated competence as a professional nurse in full time recent practice.
  • Demonstrated experience and effectiveness as a clinician.
  • Utilization of clinical research findings in nursing practice.
  • Training in computer programs including Microsoft Office and Windows applications.
