AvailableVarsity: November 2, 2026 through February 20, 2027Assistant CoachThe role of an Avenues coach is to instruct our student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary to realize individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must provide a foundation for integrity, pride of accomplishment, sportsmanship, self-discipline, goal setting, teamwork and self-confidence.Head
Coaches will (but not limited to): Breakdown and teach the fundamental skills for players at all levelsAttend all scheduled games and practicesManage and coordinate practice and game plansBe responsible for handling all administrative duties related to their teamAttend all scheduled games and practicesAttend all necessary athletic and school meetings and eventsAssistant
Coaches will (but not limited to): Support head coach in promoting the mission of the programContribute to and/or run practice sessionsGather and record statistical informationAttend all scheduled games and practicesAttend all necessary athletic and school meetings and eventsPractice and Game SchedulePractices are 1.5 hours and meets are up to 2 hours, not including travel time. Varsity roles meet 4x a week.
On meet days, athletes sometimes leave between 2:15pm - 3:00pm, so candidates should be available at this time to travel to away games with the team.
Home meets are at 4:30pm.The practice schedule is as consistent as it can be for each team. They are 1.5 hours and are slotted between 4-6pm

YouCoaches bring all or most of the following:Head coaches have 3+ years of Saber/Foil head coach coaching experienceAssistant coaches have 1+ years of fencing coaching or related experienceExcellent communication skills (verbal and written)Strong organizational skillsAbility to work well with student athletes, parents, faculty/staff and the athletics departmentCurrent First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to get training before the season commencesKnowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport, with special consideration given to those having experience with the desired age categoryEnthusiasm, commitment, patience, and a passion for teaching the game are essential to this positionAbility to motivate and provide positive leadership to our student athletes by following our school and athletic missionHigh-level competitive playing experience (preferred)Additional InformationPlease note that this is a part time and seasonal position averaging 4.5-10 hours a week. Coach pay rates range from $60.00-$65.00 per hour, depending on coach level (assistant vs. head) and experience.
