Job description

  • MORAVIAN ACADEMY Middle School Humanities Teacher Full-Time
  • 10-Month
  • Swain Campus
  • Grades 6–8 Middle schoolers are in the middle of everything, and that's exactly what makes teaching them one of the most intellectually alive jobs in education. At Moravian Academy's Swain Campus, we're looking for a Humanities teacher who thrives in that energy. You see a seventh grader wrestling with a historical question, and you know that's not just a lesson; it's shaping how they'll think about the world. You bring deep knowledge of English Language Arts and Social Studies alongside a genuine feel for the developmental world of early adolescence. You know how to build a classroom where inquiry and rigor aren't in tension; they're the same thing. In this full-time, 10-month position, you'll teach multiple sections across ELA and History for students in grades 6–8, serve as a student advisor, and take your place as an active contributor to the life of the school. You'll collaborate across disciplines, participate in weekly professional learning, and engage families as genuine partners in each student's growth. At Moravian Academy, middle school is not a holding pattern - it's a destination in itself. What You Bring Bachelor's degree in English, History, Education, or a closely related field; master's preferred Demonstrated experience and genuine enthusiasm for teaching middle school-aged students Strong understanding of adolescent development and middle school pedagogy Ability to design differentiated, inquiry-driven instruction for diverse learners Skill in building trust-based relationships with students, families, and colleagues Experience with Responsive Classroom, Developmental Design, or comparable SEL frameworks preferred 5 or more years of middle school teaching experience preferred Background in an independent school or college-preparatory setting preferred Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education preferred Successful completion of required Pennsylvania background clearances (Act 34, Act 151, Act 114) before start of employment If middle school is your calling, we want to hear from you. Apply through Moravian Academy's employment portal. Equal Opportunity Employment Moravian Academy is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, marital status, disability, military status, sexual orientation, pregnancy, citizenship status, or any other legally protected category in its employment practices.
