  • English-Hebrew
  • Immersion
  • Duration: Approximately August 2026 – February 2027 Our Mission Sela was founded to dismantle educational inequity, racial segregation, and cultural isolation. We provide a space where students are celebrated as they begin their journey as global citizens. As a bilingual Hebrew-English school, we proudly serve over 280 students from Pre-K3 through 5th grade in the heart of DC. The Role As the Temporary Kindergarten English Lead Teacher, you will provide vital leave coverage as a homeroom co-teacher within our 50/50 immersion model. You will work jointly with a Hebrew language co-teacher to lead all aspects of the Kindergarten day. You will take the lead on foundational math instruction, with the support of your Hebrew-language co-teacher. You will also work collaboratively with the other grade-level English teacher to design and teach foundational English Language Arts (ELA). You will be responsible for delivering high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction in early literacy and math, ensuring a seamless, joyful dual-language experience for our diverse youngest learners during this coverage period. Key Responsibilities Instructional Excellence Design Common Core-aligned Kindergarten lesson plans that challenge students while accommodating diverse learning styles, early childhood development milestones, and fine motor progression. Create a balanced approach of structured academic learning and purposeful, play-based exploration. Data-Driven Growth Regularly analyze formal and informal early childhood assessment data (including observational data and phonics/math diagnostic tools) to tailor pedagogical choices and drive student achievement. Classroom Culture Maintain an inviting, high-energy, and nurturing learning environment through effective, positive classroom management and developmentally appropriate routines tailored to five- and six-year-olds. Collaboration Partner closely with your Hebrew co-teacher, the grade-level English-language teacher, and instructional leaders to ensure curricular coherence, smooth transitions between languages, and a unified student experience. Commitment to Equity Uphold the firm belief that all students can achieve at high levels, fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity and validates each child's unique background. Instruction and Curriculum Plan and deliver standards-aligned Kindergarten instruction in assigned subject areas (primarily ELA, Math, and Social-Emotional Learning) with your co-teacher. Develop lesson plans and hands-on instructional materials that support student engagement, rigor, multi-sensory learning, and differentiated instruction. Use formative and summative assessments to monitor early literacy and numeracy progress, adjusting instruction accordingly. Establish clear, child-friendly learning objectives for students and regularly evaluate progress toward those goals. Participate in collaborative planning with Kindergarten and early childhood content-area teams. Classroom Environment and Student Engagement Create and maintain a safe, respectful, warm, and inclusive classroom environment. Implement classroom management practices that promote independence, self-regulation, positive student behavior, and active engagement. Foster student voice, curiosity, critical thinking, and independent learning through center-based activities. Ensure equitable access to classroom materials, manipulative resources, and academic supports. Student Support and Collaboration Collaborate with special education teachers, English learner specialists, counselors, and other support staff to meet the needs of all early learners. Participate in student support processes, including Student Support Team (SST) meetings and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for early intervention. Use student performance data to identify learning gaps in foundational skills and provide appropriate interventions or supports. Implement accommodations and modifications as required by Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, or other student support plans. Family Engagement and Communication Maintain regular, professional, and welcoming communication with families regarding Kindergarten milestones, student progress, and daily classroom activities. Participate in parent-teacher conferences and other family engagement opportunities to build strong home-school partnerships. Collaborate with families to support student holistic development and school readiness. Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and required school training. Engage in instructional coaching cycles and feedback processes to continuously refine early childhood teaching practices. Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and accountability in all job responsibilities. Contribute positively to the school’s professional culture and collaborative work environment. Compliance and School Policies Comply with all applicable school policies, procedures, and professional expectations. Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other applicable laws. Serve as a mandated reporter and comply with all child abuse reporting requirements under applicable law. Follow school policies related to early childhood supervision, safety, dismissal, and conduct. Maintain accurate and timely student records, including assessment data, attendance, and required documentation.
