  • Compensation: Assistant Coaches earn a stipend of $2,000. Head Coaches earn a stipend of $5,000. About APR Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter Public School (APR) is a tuition-free, public charter school offering a rigorous, college preparatory program in Grades 5-12 to 540 students from Boston. For 25 years, APR has empowered diverse learners (90% students of color; 11% English Learners; 25% on IEPs) of all racial and ethnic backgrounds to achieve their full intellectual and social potential through high-quality academic and enrichment programs to promote college and career exploration, cultural immersion, and community service. Our supportive and inclusive community actively counters patterns of inequity through dynamic learning partnerships between staff, students, and families. This work is grounded in the vision that all students graduate with a focused mind and a big heart, having the critical thinking, mastery of academic and social skills, and a deep sense of self and others to joyfully pursue post-secondary education, careers, and civic life based on their passions and interests. Our 570+ alumni have a six-year college graduation rate of 70% - double the national average of their demographic peers. Role Description APR is looking for experienced coaches for our High School Fall Sports program. Coaches will report to the Athletic Director and must be knowledgeable about the skills and strategies of the sport and are responsible for providing a safe environment for players during practices and matches. They must possess effective coaching techniques and skills as well as knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Prior experience as a varsity or junior varsity coach at the high school and/or club level is preferred. First Aid and CPR/AED certifications are provided. Coaches are responsible for helping with practices, player improvement, effective communication and game day management. Coaches must report any concerns about contest, practices, transportation, and student conduct directly to the Athletic Director after any incident.

Responsibilities

Teach fundamental and advanced techniques and strategies. Foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture. Ensure compliance with school, league, and state athletic regulations. Communicate regularly with student-athletes, families, and school staff. Promote academic accountability and good citizenship among team members. Oversee team equipment and uniforms. Attend league meetings, trainings, and required school events.

Qualifications

Prior coaching experience (high school or higher level preferred). Knowledge of sport rules, techniques, and training methods. Ability to positively motivate and manage high school athletes. CPR/First Aid and Concussion Certification (or willingness to obtain). Background check clearance required. Must be available for practices after school and for weekday/weekend games.
