The teacher’s goal is to help students learn skills and subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible Christians to the praise and glory of God. Teachers are responsible for teaching and educating students according to the educational needs, abilities and attainment potential of individual students entrusted to their care by the Parents, Principals, Head of School, Assistant Head of School, and the Board of Directors. This position is instrumental in sustaining a school environment that is safe, encouraging, and fosters the development of the student. This person shall be spiritually mature and shall instill a life of Faith, Character, and Academic Excellence in our students. Essential Job
  • Duties and
  • Responsibilities for this position, but are not limited, to: Planning and Preparation for Learning Anticipate student uncertainty when planning and preparing lessons. Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports at established times. Uses a variety of informal and formal methods of assessments to measure student learning, growth, and understanding. Create relevant lesson plans that motivate and inspire students to learn. Demonstrate a clear-cut understanding of the curriculum, physical activity level, and the developmental needs of students. Develop, plan, and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment and reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Create curriculum map for the school year. Develop standards-based unit and lesson plans. Prepare and provide the front office emergency lesson plans/materials for 2 days to include current and accurate information. Actively engaged in ongoing curriculum mapping. (LMS) Classroom Management Establish clear expectations for classroom/gym/playground rules and procedures early in the school year and enforces them consistently and fairly. Create and maintain a clean, attractive, safe and collaborative learning/play environment that motivates students. Formulate and follow a management/discipline plan based on the school’s philosophy of discipline. Use materials, facilities, and equipment that are aligned to instructional purposes and are age appropriate. Establish and maintain positive rapport with students and demonstrate respect for an interest in all students. Create and maintain an environment in which students’ diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected. Know the procedures for issues of an emergency nature. Assist with required emergency safety drills in coordination with school leadership. Report to the appropriate individuals on campus safety, health, and maintenance needs that are observed. Delivery of Instruction Present material/content and purpose correctly in a logical, coherent fashion to support the learning and development objectives. Employ a variety of instructional aides, teaching techniques, and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional. Use instructional practices that reflect high expectations regarding content and quality of effort and work; engage all students; and personalize to accommodate diverse learning styles, needs, interest, and levels or readiness. Establish challenging and measurable goal(s) and objectives for student learning that aligns with standards. Demonstrate how the goals fit into the broader unit, course, and school goals for content learning and skills. Transition from one learning unit to another with minimum loss of instructional time. Use verbal and nonverbal strategies and focus techniques to elicit students’ thinking process. Teach students about the importance of physical activity, nutrition, and injury prevention. Work with other teachers and staff to integrate physical education into the overall school curriculum. Monitoring, Assessment, and Follow-Up Use a variety of informal and formal methods of assessment to measure student learning, growth, and understanding to develop differentiated and enhanced learning experiences and improve future instruction. Draw appropriate, actionable conclusions from a thorough analysis of assessment data. Evaluate student progress through physical tests and provide feedback to support their development. Maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records as required by law and school policies. Online Learning Knowledgeable and able to be trained to maintain students both in a traditional classroom, and in an online format. Flexible to work with students both in a traditional classroom setting and online setting. Works independently on technology to implement online learning and be able to train and assist students on the current platform as well. Family and Community Engage in two-way communication with families about student learning and performance. Exhibit awareness of cultural difference and the impact of families on the student’s development. Promote the learning and growth of all students through effective partnerships with families, caregivers, community members, and schools. Collaborate with parents to create and implement strategies to support student learning and development at home and school. Respond to parental communication in a timely and professional manner. Collaborate effectively with colleagues on a wide range of tasks. Contribute to team projects. Academic and Cultural Support Participate in beginning-of year staff orientation, staff devotionals, and staff meetings. Actively participate in summer and yearly in-service trainings as indicated by your school/division’s principal. Participate in the school’s development programs and activities in areas of constituency relations, fundraising, and student recruitment and retention. Participate in the daily functioning of the school – morning, lunch, and afternoon supervisory duties. Ensure that provision is made for accountability and securing of all funds collected in the classroom. Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned. Participate in the end-of-year school closing process to include the inventory of furniture and equipment. Supports and helps lead efforts of diversity and cultural awareness from a Biblical Worldview. Builds and maintains trust with students and parents. Supports the school’s mission and leadership and is active in the life and culture of the school community. Complies with the conditions as stated in the employee contract, code of conduct, and employee handbook. Shows support and high esteem for San Antonio Christian School, Staff, and Board of Trustees. Represents the school and its philosophy in a favorable and professional manner to the school family and the public. Participates in the school’s development programs and activities in areas of constituency relations, fundraising, and student recruitment and retention. Attends staff meetings and training programs as deemed necessary by the school administration. Any other duties as assigned. QualificationsQualifications Minimum of bachelor’s degree in teaching subject/field from an accredited college or university. Advanced degrees preferred. Possess evidence of other adequate preparation, background, or experience as determined by the school administrator. Possess and maintain state and/or ACSI certification(s) or be willing to obtain the certification (s) as administration deems necessary. A born-again Christian with an evidenced deep, mature, and consistent relationship with Jesus Christ. Active member of a local evangelical church that aligns with the essential beliefs and statement of faith San Antonio Christian School. Obvious love and desire to communicate the Gospel of Christ to young people. Highly relational with established record of cultivating strong, appropriate relationships with students and adults. Agree and live by the school’s lifestyle and faith statements as a condition for employment and continued employment in this ministry. Strong computer skills with the ability to integrate technology into curriculum to design interactive and engaging lessons. PC proficient with knowledge of standard software. Effective written and verbal communicator. Must pass a criminal background check. Must pass a substance screening check. Have reliable transportation to and from work. Spiritual and Professional Qualities Demonstrate a desire for spiritual growth as evidenced by prayer life, Bible study, and spiritual outreach to others. Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others. Maintain high standards of ethics, honesty, judgement, and integrity in all personal and professional matters. Respectfully submit and be loyal to constituted authority. Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and administration. Meet everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, flexibility, and optimism. Demonstrate the importance of discernment, discretion, and confidentiality concerning the sharing of information. Maintain a personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, and good taste consistent with school policy. A sincere appreciation for the diversity within conservative, orthodox Christianity. Be willing to participate in continuing education opportunities that will increase proficiency and job skills. Model good attendance and punctuality.
