Provides operational and classroom support to maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment for children and staff. Responsibilities include sanitizing facilities, assisting with meal service, and preparing classroom materials.
A high school diploma or GED is required, with preferred experience in childcare or school environments. Candidates must be able to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 30 pounds and following strict sanitation procedures.
Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy learning environment throughout the center. Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, utensils, and food service items according to program and health department standards. Clean and sanitize classrooms, restrooms, common areas, toys, furniture, and equipment. Assist with laundry, including bedding, towels, dress-up clothes, and other classroom materials. Support classroom staff by preparing materials, organizing supplies, and setting up or cleaning up activities. Assist with meal and snack service, including preparation, distribution, and cleanup as directed. Monitor inventory of cleaning and classroom supplies and notify supervisors of replenishment needs. Help maintain outdoor play areas and ensure equipment is clean and organized. Assist with classroom transitions, special events, family engagement activities, and center-wide projects as needed. Follow all Head Start Performance Standards, licensing regulations, health and safety procedures, and agency policies. Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and program operations. Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the center. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Experience working in a childcare, preschool, school, or related environment preferred. Ability to follow cleaning, sanitation, and safety procedures. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to communicate professionally with staff, families, and community members. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 30 pounds regularly. Ability to perform cleaning and housekeeping duties throughout the workday. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions as needed. Work Environment This position works in a Head Start early childhood education setting and may be exposed to noise, cleaning products, bodily fluids, and frequent interaction with young children. The employee is expected to maintain a professional, positive, and child-focused approach at all times.
