Position Overview

Carleton College, a highly selective liberal arts college, seeks to hire an assistant coach in the Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation (PEAR) Department to assist in phases of a successful and competitive NCAA Division III program. Carleton College aims to hire those that share our college values of excellence in education, multiculturalism and service to society. We aspire to hire a coach who will invest in the success and holistic well-being of our entire student-athlete population and provide a highly competitive athletic experience for the students we serve. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

The typical working schedule for this position is during Carleton’s Academic year, fall and winter terms,, roughly September 1 through March 31st . Athletic coaching appointments are extended on an annual basis.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this non-benefit eligible position is $17,400 - $20,000

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in the planning and preparation of team training, travel, coaching on-deck at daily morning and afternoon practices, dryland training, recruiting, student-athlete development, and fundraising.
  • Share in all aspects of recruitment and identify, attract, matriculate and retain outstanding student-athletes to the college.
  • Support coaching staff with team meetings and other administrative duties as it relates to the program. May include equipment organization/distribution, placing of meal orders, social media, etc.
  • Attend meetings related to coaching: working with the head coach and other staff.
  • Complete all required departmental and institutional training and certification programs and participate actively in available professional development opportunities.
  • Comply with the policies, rules, and regulations set forth by the NCAA Division III and Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (MIAC), Carleton College and the Athletic Department.
  • Understand and support students who are balancing multiple responsibilities as students and athletes in a rigorous academic environment.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of sportsmanship and conduct during practices and contests.

Education/Experience/Skills

Required

BA or BS degree

1-2 years coaching or playing at the collegiate level

Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the sport, attention to detail as well as excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills

Self-motivated with the ability to help recruit, teach and coach highly talented scholar-athletes who can succeed in a challenging academic environment

Current certification in American Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguarding is required.

Valid driver’s license.

Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.

Requirements

Requires a BA or BS degree and 1-2 years of collegiate coaching or playing experience. Must hold a valid driver's license and current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification.
