Essential Functions

An 8th-grade science and social studies teacher typically develops and delivers engaging lessons aligned with curriculum standards, assesses student learning, fosters a positive classroom environment, and collaborates with school staff to support student success. They also communicate with parents, integrate technology, and may participate in professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach engaging science and social studies lessons, incorporating diverse learning styles and incorporating relevant technologies.
  • Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student understanding and progress, providing constructive feedback.
  • Establish andmaintaina positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and learning.
  • Work with other teachers, special educators, and school staff to support student needs and implement school-wide initiatives.
  • Maintain regular communication with parentsregardingstudent progress, behavior, and academic performance.
  • Stay current with advancements in teaching methodologies and integrate new knowledge into their practice.
  • Specific Duties:
  • Create lesson plans that align with state and national standards, incorporating relevant content and activities.
  • Utilize technology to enhance lessons and engage students, creating a 21st-century learning experience.
  • Provide individualized and small groupinstructiontoadaptthe curriculum to meet diverse student needs.
  • Analyze assessment data toidentifyareas where students needadditionalsupport and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Communicate with parents about student progress, behavior, and any concerns or needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (required).
  • Valid state teaching certification for the grade level,possibly withendorsements.
  • Classroom experience is often preferred.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Strong communicationand interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and how to adapt instruction.
  • Accountability for student achievement.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Positive attitude and dedication to the school's mission.
  • Physical Demands
  • Speak, stand, talk, walk, see, hear and, sometimes,to sit.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to read small print.
  • Frequently bend, reach above the head, as well as forward, and use fine motor skills.
