The Athletic Trainer provides direct orthopedic care for pediatric and adolescent patients in clinical and school-based settings. Responsibilities include evaluating injuries, developing customized care plans, and managing emergency action plans for athletic events.

The Athletic Trainer plays a key role within the Orthopedic Service Line, working closely with physicians and multidisciplinary care teams to support pediatric and adolescent patients in clinic and the school-based community outreach settings. This role specifically focuses on medical event coverage, patient evaluation, development and communication of individualized care plans, care coordination with other healthcare providers and disciplines, and delivery of patient and family education in collaboration with our attending providers for the 6th - 12th graders at University School of Milwaukee.

The Athletic Trainer practices within the Board of Certification domains—prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation—while applying experiential knowledge and evidence‑based guidelines to ensure high‑quality, patient‑centered care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers required.
  • State of Wisconsin Athletic Training License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire) required.
  • Experience or interest in working with pediatric or adolescent patients preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse patient population and contribute to a culturally competent environment.
  • Current CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in athletic training and BOC certification are required, along with a Wisconsin state license. BLS certification is mandatory, and a Master's degree or orthopedic technician certification is preferred.
