The Admissions Assessor facilitates playgroups and conducts assessments for prospective students from Pre-K to 1st Grade. They are responsible for creating a positive classroom culture and producing written evaluations of each candidate.

Who we are?

Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, it serves an inclusive community of about 1,700 students on two campuses -- one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan.

Position Summary

ECFS is seeking a qualified early childhood professional to work seasonally in the admissions office.

The team of early childhood Admissions Assessors will work together conducting playgroups for prospective students applying to PreK-1st Grade, and produce a written assessment of each candidate.

The playgroups will take place at both our Bronx and Manhattan campuses.

The assessor may be required to conduct school visits at various nursery schools throughout New York City.

This is a seasonal position from mid-September to February.

Please note that this is an onsite role and not performed remotely. Ethical Culture Fieldston School retains its right to modify job duties in accordance with changing operational needs.

The hiring range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00 per hour.

When determining the salary for a position, ECFS considers factors including, but not limited to: the scope and responsibilities of the position, internal peer equity, key skills required for the role, the candidate’s work experience, education, and training, as well as market and organizational considerations.

Responsibilities

The Admissions Assessor’s responsibilities will include

  • Facilitating admissions playgroups and assessments for Pre-K - 1st Grade prospective students;
  • Maintaining a clean and welcoming classroom;
  • Creating a positive classroom culture that encourages sharing, cooperation, empathy, and problem solving among young learners;
  • Assisting with additional admissions responsibilities as needed, such as parent interviews, tours, admissions events, and 2nd - 5th Grade prospective student assessments;
  • Fostering positive relationships with team members and various stakeholders;
  • Motivating and inspiring the team and coworkers to achieve goals; and
  • Performing other related projects and duties as needed and assigned

Position Requirements

The successful incumbent will possess

  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • At least two years of prior early childhood education experience, preferably in an independent school setting;
  • A passion for teaching and working with young children;
  • The ability to work collaboratively on a team, as well as independently;
  • Exceptional organizational skills and be highly detail oriented;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • A positive attitude, and the ability to listen effectively, learn quickly, and be receptive to feedback;
  • The ability to handle confidential materials with discretion while maintaining a high level of integrity;
  • An understanding and commitment to cultural competency and to fostering an inclusive environment that supports students of all backgrounds;
  • A strong ability to multitask and shift priorities without compromising on the quality of work;
  • The ability to identify issues quickly and problem solve accordingly, and to remain calm in stressful situations that may arise;
  • A willingness to learn and embrace new ideas and procedures, and a consistent initiative to help streamline processes and improve efficiencies;
  • Proficiency in utilizing and learning new technologies (i.e., Google Workspace tools);
  • Reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance; and
  • The ability to cultivate a welcoming culture in which all members of our community feel valued and appreciated.
