Program hours are between 7:45am - 2:30pm, Monday through Friday. Job location is on LAUSD elementary school campuses and will run through June for the 2025-2026 calendar year. POSITION SUMMARY The PE Coach is responsible for delivering high-quality physical education instruction to TK–5th grade students in elementary schools throughout the community. PE Coaches implement a structured curriculum aligned with California Physical Education Standards while creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. This position serves as an extension of the school day, helping students develop physical literacy, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle habits through purposeful and engaging activities. Key Responsibilities Deliver structured physical education lessons to elementary school students using YMCA-approved curriculum plans. Teach age-appropriate sports, games, movement skills, and fitness activities that align with California Physical Education Standards. Create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment that promotes participation, confidence, and skill development for all students. Maintain active supervision of students at all times and ensure a safe environment during instruction and transitions. Utilize effective classroom management techniques and positive behavior strategies to encourage student success. Adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and developmental levels of students. Build positive relationships with students, teachers, administrators, and school staff to support student achievement and program success. Assess student participation, engagement, and progress while providing encouragement and constructive feedback. Maintain program equipment, instructional materials, and activity areas in accordance with YMCA standards. Communicate program needs, incidents, concerns, and successes to supervisors in a timely and professional manner. Support the YMCA's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging by ensuring all students have opportunities to participate and succeed. Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities. Follow all YMCA policies and procedures related to child safety, risk management, mandated reporting, emergency response, and program operations. Qualifications Experience working with children in educational, recreation, sports, coaching, or youth development settings. Strong leadership, communication, and classroom management skills. Ability to lead large groups of students in an organized and engaging manner. Passion for youth development, physical activity, and creating positive experiences for children. Ability to work independently while representing the YMCA in a professional manner on school campuses. Knowledge of sports, fitness, physical education, or youth development principles preferred.
