HANAC provides a broad range of programs and services that support older adults, families, immigrants, job seekers, and other vulnerable populations throughout New York City.
The Adult Education Program is seeking a dynamic, dedicated, and experienced educator to provide instruction to adult learners preparing for High School Equivalency (HSE) attainment. The successful candidate will have experience working with diverse adult learners at various Adult Basic Education (ABE) levels and possess strong instructional skills across multiple academic disciplines. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching adult learners in High School Equivalency preparation, utilizing technology in the classroom, implementing interdisciplinary curricula, and applying a variety of instructional and assessment strategies to support student success. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Meet learning outcomes and performance standards prescribed by funding sources and program requirements. Provide instruction in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation, including: Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing. Prepare and implement lesson plans aligned with program curriculum and student learning objectives. Utilize a variety of instructional methods, educational technology, and curriculum resources to engage adult learners. Maintain accurate daily attendance records and support student retention efforts in accordance with funding requirements. Monitor and document student progress, assessments, and educational outcomes. Maintain complete and accurate student files and required program documentation. Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and training sessions as required by HANAC and funding agencies. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in Education, Liberal Arts, Science, or a related field. Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE/GED), or other non-traditional adult education programs. Experience developing lesson plans and delivering instruction to adult learners with varying educational backgrounds. Proficiency in classroom technology and virtual learning tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and engage adult learners from diverse backgrounds. Experience preparing students for the GED examination. Knowledge of TABE assessments, NRS educational functioning levels, and adult education performance standards. Experience utilizing interdisciplinary curricula and multiple assessment methods.
