Conduct group and private swim lessons for athletes of all ages and abilities while following American Red Cross curricula. Ensure participant safety by monitoring the environment and providing constructive feedback to enhance performance.
Candidates must be at least 16 years old and possess or be willing to obtain American Red Cross certifications in Water Safety Instruction, Lifeguarding, and First Aid/CPR/AED. Physical ability to spend several hours in the water and lift up to 50 pounds is required.
The Swim Instructor is responsible for conducting swim lessons for both group and one-on-one private swim lessons. Lessons are conducted in the morning hours and may also be offered in the evening. The Swim Instructor is responsible for instructing and developing athletes. This role involves designing and implementing training programs, providing instruction and feedback, and fostering a positive and competitive environment for athletes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Maintain a valid American Red Cross Water Safety certification, a valid American Red Cross Basic Life Support certification, and a valid American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens certification Teach swimming and water safety skills to students of all ages and abilities, following the curriculum outlined by the American Red Cross Utilize all teaching tools provided, complete attendance records, track students' progress, complete course completion cards, and submit all Red Cross Course Records Teaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes, individuals, and groups Monitoring, evaluating, and enhancing participant performance and needs Providing suitable feedback via positivity, encouragement, example, and motivation Demonstrating an activity clearly by breaking down the task or technique into a sequence Maintain participant safety through preventative instruction Understand and enforce all rules and regulations Always be in the water with each class for all levels Check the area for safety hazards and try to eliminate them Ensuring a safe environment for all participants Implementing the lesson plans in an accurate, creative, positive, and efficient fashion All additional duties assigned by management THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS: Have a thorough understanding of swimming fundamentals, progressions, and techniques for swimmers of all ages. Must be willing to teach swimmers of all abilities, including students with increased needs. Experience and success in customer service, leadership, and team building Action-oriented personality with a 'get it done' attitude and proficiency for efficiency
Has American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or willing to obtain Has American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid, CRP/AED or willing to obtain Requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Must be detail-oriented and have outstanding organizational skills Ability to maintain focus in a high-volume, fast paced environment Must be at least 16 years of age WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to spend up to 4 consecutive hours of time in the water while instructing Must be able to perform the physical labor required to physically support students of all ages in the water Must be able to properly perform all skills in the lesson plans throughout the course of employment Must be able to lift 50 pounds waist high May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop, or bend While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work in direct sunlight and be exposed to outside weather conditions. Team member may be exposed to hot, wet, and humid conditions
