Position Summary

The intercollegiate athletics program is an integral part of the university striving to achieve the same standards excellence in athletics that exist within academic programs. The program is concerned with the physical and mental welfare of the student and strives to ensure that every athlete has the opportunity to succeed academically and obtain a degree. Sports programs are a vital function of the University at large. The Athletic Trainer reports to the Director of Sports Medicine and Senior Associate Athletic Director/SWA and is responsible for assisting in the direction of all aspects of the athletic training Program. This position exists to coordinate the prevention, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries sustained by student-athletes in all 15 varsity sport programs, serving as the primary athletic trainer for selected sports. An emphasis with Division I athletics experience is preferred. Job Duties: 70% Prevent, provide acute treatment and rehabilitation for athletic injuries in student-athletes. Major duties include: Serving as the primary athletic trainer for assigned sports including travel with teams Student-athlete education Assist with inventory, budget, purchasing, and other athletic training administrative functions Coordinate with team physicians, strength coaches, and other necessary personnel for student-athlete healthcare Various administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine. 20% Educate and supervise athletic training students including competency sign-offs. Cooperate with the Athletic Training Education Program administrative staff to assist with programs designed to educate and train future athletic trainers.

  • 10% Implementation of all Sports Medicine policies and procedures This position would require a high degree of independent thought and critical thinking during potentially life threatening situations.

  • Student-athletes will receive the opportunity for appropriate care and treatment of athletic injuries And a possible reduction of injuries due to the increased attention to student-athletes and their activities.
  • Athletic Training students will receive more individualized and direct education in a practical/clinical Setting.
  • The Assistant Athletic Trainer will enhance our educational program and allow the academic Program to satisfy national accreditation standards.
  • The Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer would supervise and monitor the Assistant Athletic Trainer and his/her athletic training activity regularly and provide feed back on a weekly basis at department meetings.
  • Daily interaction with supervision is common.
  • Formal annual evaluations will be performed by the Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer with assistance from the Senior Associate Athletic Director.
  • Program and employee reviews are done annually within the Athletic department.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field or experience. Two (2) years of athletic training experience is required. Experience at the Division I collegiate level preferred. NATA Certification required; Colorado Licensure required/eligible; first-aid, CPR and AED certified Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Office Windows), communication, problem solving, management, supervisory and organizational skills, ability to work well under pressure; knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
