Jay Nolan Community Services
Location
Santa Clarita, California
Salary
$20 - $23 / HOUR
The role involves providing one-to-one direct support services to individuals with autism and developmental disabilities, helping them achieve independence. Additionally, the individual will act as a mentor and role model, supporting the person in various aspects of daily life.
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required, along with a high school diploma or GED. Experience working with individuals with autism and developmental disabilities is preferred but not mandatory.
We are seeking a responsible, compassionate individual to serve as both a roommate and a scheduled support professional for an adult who is Deaf. This unique role includes living in the home with the person you support and sharing household expenses such as rent and utilities. During designated work hours, you will provide direct support based on the individual’s daily needs and routines. Outside of those scheduled hours, you are simply a roommate with shared living responsibilities.
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required, as clear communication is essential for building a comfortable and respectful living environment. This position is ideal for someone who values meaningful work, stable housing, and a collaborative home setting.
You help individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities live quality lives with dignity, independence and choice. On an average day, DSPs support people to build relationships, live safely in their own homes, and accomplish their personal, educational, and career goals.
Unlike a caregiver, DSPs encourage people to do things themselves, not do things for them. Ultimately, your goal is to empower people to live independently so they can live happier, more fulfilled lives.
