New York, NY 10040 Program George Washington Campus YABC Date July 6th, 2026 Summary East Side House (ESH), founded in 1891, is a 501(c) (3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The organization is dedicated to the community and focused on providing resources and opportunities. ESH has identified that education is the foundation for economic improvement and through its youth education and technology programs it teaches skills to allow its students and clients to become more self-sufficient and independent. As a community resource the organization also provides services to families and a growing senior population. In 2020 the organization began food distribution as an additional way to provide economic support to the community we serve. The George Washington Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) is an alternative afternoon and evening program designed to meet the educational needs of high school students who are behind in credit or have adult responsibilities that make it hard to attend school during the day. Students attend YABCs part-time in the afternoon or evening to earn a high school diploma. The YABC program is designed to re-engage high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out of high school. ESH is directly responsible for the administration of each school’s Learning-to-Work Program, which enhances the school’s academic component by offering additional academic support, career and education exploration, work preparation, skills development, and internships. Under the supervision of the LTW Program Director and Assistant Director, with latitude for independent judgment, student advisors will be responsible to perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and ability required, but not limited to: Primary Functions Duties and
• Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to the following: Be a primary person of contact for a caseload of approximately 60-70 students Conduct daily attendance, academic, and social-emotional outreach via phone, remotely, or socially distant as needed Conduct intake interviews with students and family members. Interviews may need to be conducted remotely via Department of Education approved platforms Refer students to academic and support services as needed Consult with guidance counselors on student credit accumulation, graduation date, and post-secondary plans Consult with teachers and provide feedback to students on academic performance Maintain student charts and records to ensure milestones are being met Refer students to academic and support services as needed Attend administrative meetings, program trainings and staff development. Meetings may require virtual attendance Meet with caseload in a group or individual setting to assist them in their academic, career and personal goals. Some individual and group work will require usage of remote platforms, or be socially distanced Conduct workshops, social-emotional groups, interest groups, or other groups for caseload Educating students and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing; advising students and families as they go through the process; and helping students and families aspire realistically and choose wisely Walk students through FAFSA and college applications Walk students through employment opportunities Conduct informal counseling sessions for students to support their social-emotional development Document all interactions with students on Salesforce, Google Suite, and other data systems as required Participate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned via East Side House Community Development Participate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned via East Side House Community Development Participate and help arrange field trips, special events and extracurricular activities Managing alumni events and data tracking Manage social networks for the purpose of keeping in touch with alumni Arrange and participate in special events, student-based projects and extracurricular activities Provide other program support functions as required Maintain flexible hours and work days, some overnight trips required Other Duties Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. QualificationsRequisite Education & Experience Minimum B.A/ B.S.W. degree is required with at least two years youth services experience. Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, communication, organizational skills. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and multi-task. Strong interpersonal skills and time management skills. Demonstrated knowledge of community service/ development. Knowledge and experience in WordPerfect/ Microsoft Word / Google Suite, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other applications. Competencies 1. • Thursday, 1:00PM – 9:00PM
• Friday, 9:00AM – 5:00PM Some evenings, weekends, and remote work required. Maintain flexible hours and work days, some overnight trips required. Work Environment Business casual. This job operates in a school office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Supervisory Responsibility The role has no supervisory responsibilities. Required Clearance Department of Education (DOE) Travel Minimal travel is expected for this position (on a need basis). Most travel will be conducted for the purpose of chaperoning trips and conducting home visits. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This role will also require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
