About the role

Responsible for planning and implementing daily operations of a school-age child care classroom, including academic support and age-appropriate activities. The role focuses on maintaining a safe, inclusive environment while upholding YMCA core values.

Available shifts include, Monday through Friday

  • 7am to 9:00am
  • 2:30pm to 6pm

Duties

INCLUDE:

Assist students in grades 1–5 with homework and provide academic support.

Plan and lead fun, engaging, and age appropriate activities.

Facilitate both small and large group games, enrichment activities, and teambuilding experiences.

Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play while maintaining a safe and positive environment.

Follow a daily program schedule that includes homework time, enrichment activities, snack time, and outdoor gross motor play.

Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment where every child feels welcomed, valued, and supported.

Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children by following program policies and procedures.

Communicate professionally and effectively with families, coworkers, and supervisors.

Position Summary

Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the daily operations of the Child Care classroom in conjunction with the Child Care Parent Handbook and Policies and Procedures Manual. Uphold the YMCA Mission at all times, focusing on the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Essential functions

1. Utilizing the current PA Early Learning Standards to

plan, implement, assess and evaluate the daily operations of the classroom, using child needs and assessments as a guide to planning. 2. Offering activities that meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development of each individual child, establishing goals and maintaining child portfolios while implementing culturally diverse experiences. 3. Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all children on a daily basis; ensuring the classroom environment and outdoor areas are well supervised and in good condition. 4. Using positive guidance techniques outlined in the parent handbook, that incorporate the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility when working with children, families and coworkers. 5. Establishing and maintaining positive and productive relationships with families, keeping parents/guardians well informed regarding the child’s growth and development, offering family resources and utilizing all communication resources. 6. Ensuring Assistant Teachers and Aides are included in the planning, implementing and evaluation of the daily program activities. 7. Maintaining all paperwork (attendance, developmental screenings, child assessments, accident/incident reports, monthly reports, annual professional goals and assessments), and submit to the Child Care Office in the required timeframe. 8. Attending all staff meetings and family events as instructed by the Center Director 9. Maintaining a professional appearance and attitude that reflects the YMCA at all times, upholding the policies outlined in the YMCA Personnel Policy handbook and Child Care Parent Handbook. 10. Any other duties deemed necessary to ensure the success of the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.

Qualifications

1. Minimum age of 18. 2. High school diploma or GED required or an Early Childhood Education (ECE) degree, diploma, or certificate. 3.

Certifications

American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/AED and Pediatric First Aid within 15 days of hire. 4. Strong Leadership and Communication Skills. 5. A commitment to continuous quality program improvements. 6. Completion of required trainings. 7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Physical demands

1.

Able to lift and carry 15-50 pounds 2.

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities.

3.

Must be able to see, hear, direct, and assist members, guests, and staff to ensure safety.

4.

Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.

Requirements

Requires a minimum age of 18 and a high school diploma, GED, or an Early Childhood Education degree/certificate. Candidates must obtain CPR/AED and Pediatric First Aid certifications within 15 days of hire.
