Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Coach - Field Hockey position. The Assistant Coach - Field Hockey is a full-time, 5-month position. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is: $15,000 - $15,833 for the five-month position. The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations. The Assistant Field Hockey Coach supports the team's Head Coach in all aspects of the program's operation. This includes student-athlete development, recruiting, team logistics, and compliance. The role requires flexibility to work some nights, weekends, and to travel overnight for away games and tournaments. The Assistant Field Hockey Coach takes appropriate actions to support a diverse student body and workforce and participates in the College’s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment. Summary of Responsibilities: Coaching & Athlete Development - Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting daily practices. - Provide technical instruction, skill development, and individual feedback to student-athletes. - May provide preparation and logistical support for games and tournaments. - Foster an environment focused on growth, accountability, and team cohesion. Recruitment - Assist with the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of prospective student-athletes. - Communicate with recruits and their families through phone, email, and in-person visits. - Coordinate and participate in on-campus recruiting visits and events. - Ensure all recruiting activities comply with institutional, conference, and NCAA guidelines. Team Operations & Logistics - Manage team travel logistics, including transportation, lodging, and meals for away contests. - Drive college vehicles to practices, games, and tournaments as necessary. - Assist in equipment management and inventory control. Administrative & Compliance Support - Maintain records related to team activities, recruiting, and travel. - Assist the Head Coach with administrative tasks and program planning as needed.
Required - Bachelor's degree, or 4-6 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree. - Prior coaching experience (collegiate or competitive level preferred). - Understanding of the role of athletics in a competitive academic environment. - Valid driver’s license and ability to drive college vehicles; must successfully complete the Five College Risk Management driver credentialing program. - Willingness and availability to work nights, weekends, and travel overnight as required. - Successful completion of required reference and background checks. - An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check.
