The Associate Teacher assists in providing educational experiences for children and parents following state and licensing guidelines. Key duties include planning classroom environments, documenting child progress, and ensuring a safe, nurturing learning climate.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and 12 units in Early Childhood Education, plus at least 50 days of experience in a child care setting. A Child Development Associate Teacher's permit must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Assist the Teacher with planning and setting up the classroom environment according to program curriculum, documents on-going observation and assessments, including Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), progress notes, and portfolio samples for the purpose of individualizing for each enrolled child. Assist with the daily lesson plans that reflect the goals of the curriculum and the individual needs of the children. Assist the Teacher with ensuring classroom safety by completing all required licensing documents to include daily health checks and safety checklists, etc. Provide a positive climate and high quality, nurturing, and supportive classroom environment that supports children learning utilizing Teaching Pyramid strategies, the Environmental Rating Scales (ERS) and Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) tools Organize and supervise activities to promote physical, mental, and social development. Help keep center orderly by sharing cleaning responsibilities and duties Review and plan classroom experiences and routines with teacher. Work with the teacher to create a social and emotional climate of care and respect that promotes each child's sense of trust, independence and competence. Work in conjunction with the teacher, supervisor, and the management team in completion of program goals and meeting required deadlines through planning and follow up in a timely manner. Assist the teacher with supervision in the classroom by consistently accounting for all children throughout the day. Ensure active supervision is in place which includes the safety and security of all children by maintaining visual supervision and an accurate census of children producible on demand and verifiable by count when requested by management, parents, or regulatory agencies. Assists teacher with resources for families as identified through needs assessments, and parent/teacher conferences. Participates in case conferencing to develop a team approach in providing services to children 0-5 and their families. Must be committed to continual learning and self- improvement through training, formal education, and keeping abreast of requirements and changes within Community Care Licensing. Follow agency rules as outlined in the employee handbook. Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and trainings as directed. Follow safety protocol and standards. Perform substitute duties at other locations as needed. Perform other duties as required. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma (or equivalent); AND Must have twelve units (12) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development including core courses (Child Development, Child, Family & Society, Principles & Practices and any other 3 units ECE/CD) with a passing grade of C or better.; AND A minimum experience of 50 days/ 3 or more hours per day within 2 years in a child care center or setting.; AND Must apply for the Child Development Associate Teacher's permit within 30 days of hire and maintain appropriate Child Development Permit; AND complete 25 hours of professional growth, annually. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Travel and attend out of area meetings and conferences as required per the funding source(s). Work variable hours and days, including those outside regular Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours. Meet and maintain KCAO hiring requirements which include: Criminal Record Clearance including California DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse Centralized Index (CACI), National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW), and the California Sex and Arson Registry (CSAR) (Megan's Law). Reliable, insured transportation and a valid California Driver License. Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) acceptable to KCAO's vehicle insurer. Health examination with tuberculin clearance. AND contingent on employment candidate will be required to provide documentation of your Measles, and Pertussis immunizations. Influenza immunization highly preferred. Ability to be contacted outside of regularly scheduled work hours in case of emergency.
