About the role

The teacher will create and implement lesson plans for Hebrew language classes and evaluate student progress. They will also engage with parents to address any concerns regarding their child's learning.

Pay Range: $75/hour

The Job

Do you have a passion for teaching and are fluent in Hebrew? If so, come join our Beged Kefet team! As a Beged Kefet Teacher you will teach Hebrew to students in grades ranging from K-12 and develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. In addition, you will implement a Hebrew curriculum that will focus on Israeli Culture, songs, literature, art and Judaic holidays and traditions.

About the Israeli Cultural Connection

The Israeli Cultural Connection (The ICC@JCC) is a department at the OFJCC that caters to the 30,000 Israelis in Silicon Valley. Through Israeli arts, music, and cultural events, the ICC offers the local Israeli and American Jewish communities the opportunity to deepen their ties to Israel—and to each other. Within the ICC, Beged Kefet is Hebrew Language School that teaches the fundamentals of Modern Hebrew to school age children.

The Core Duties

  • Serve as a role-model to students by contributing to their curiosity, learning and development
  • Create and implement lesson plans for each class based on program goals
  • Assign, collect and evaluate appropriate homework assignments
  • Maintain accurate up to date records and grades based on completed assignments and upload information to school website so parents can view status and progress of the student(s)
  • Work with parents if a child is struggling with class material to review concerns and identify a solution
  • Handle and address parent concerns and questions promptly and appropriately; informing Headmaster when relevant

The Essentials

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent in teaching, languages or liberal arts
  • 1-2 years of teaching in a K-12 school
  • NETA Hebrew Language Teaching Certification required
  • Fluent in Hebrew (Speaking, Reading and Writing)
  • Comprehensive understanding of Israeli Culture
  • Cleared Background Check (Fingerprints, Child Abuse Index Check and Medical/TB exam)
  • Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certified
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with ability to communicate information clearly
  • Ability and desire to work independently and as a team member with the community and other employees
  • Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities when required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Positive, upbeat and enthusiastic about working in a non-profit environment
