On-campus Position Description UWC-USA is a two-year, co-ed boarding school in Montezuma, New Mexico, founded in 1982.
It educates roughly 220 students aged 16–19 from over 70-90 countries, focusing on the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, experiential education, community service, and environmental stewardship.
The School Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Health Clinic Manager and provides direct nursing care and health education to support student wellbeing and full participation in the UWC-USA experience.
The RN assesses, treats, monitors, and refers students for medical care as appropriate; maintains accurate and confidential health records; supports the daily operations of the Health Clinic; and collaborates with healthcare providers and school employees to ensure safe, coordinated, and continuous care.
Position Responsibilities Student Medical Care Assess, treat, monitor, and provide nursing care to students for acute illness, injury, and ongoing health concerns.
Administer prescription and over-the-counter medications in accordance with physician orders, clinic protocols, and applicable regulations.
Provide first aid and emergency medical care to students, employees, and visitors as appropriate.
Monitor students with chronic medical conditions and assist in implementing individualized health care plans.
Coordinate referrals to physicians, specialists, hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, and other healthcare providers as directed.
Accompany students to medical appointments, emergency care, or hospitalization when assigned, serving in loco parentis.
Support students returning to campus following illness, hospitalization, injury, or medical leave.
Care Coordination and Communication Collaborate with the Health Clinic Manager, physicians, mental health professionals, Residential Life staff, faculty, administrators, and external healthcare providers to coordinate student care.
Communicate with students, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers regarding student health concerns, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
Provide health information to faculty and staff on a need-to-know basis while maintaining student privacy and confidentiality.
Promptly communicate concerns regarding student health, safety, or wellbeing to the Health Clinic Manager and Dean of Student Life as appropriate.
Health Records and Documentation Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of assessments, treatments, medication administration, incidents, attendance related to illness, and follow-up care in Magnus Health and other required systems.
Assist in reviewing incoming student health records, immunization compliance, insurance information, and required medical documentation.
Prepare health summaries, medication plans, and emergency information for expeditions, off-campus programs, and Residential Life staff as assigned.
Assist with insurance documentation, referrals, and medical billing processes as needed.
Clinic Operations Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, organized, and well-equipped Health Clinic.
Ensure medications are stored, administered, documented, and disposed of in accordance with clinic policies and applicable regulations.
Monitor clinic inventory and notify the Health Clinic Manager of supply and equipment needs.
Restock medical supplies, emergency equipment, and dormitory first aid kits.
Assist with preparing the Health Clinic for the beginning and end of each school year.
Health Promotion and Education Provide individual health education and wellness counseling to students.
Support campus programming related to illness prevention, nutrition, sleep, sexual health, substance use harm reduction, stress management, and other health topics.
Assist with health education sessions during orientation, residential programming, and other student events.
Promote healthy behaviors that support student wellbeing and full participation in the UWC-USA experience.
Public Health and Emergency Response Assist in communicable disease prevention, surveillance, reporting, and response.
Support campus emergency preparedness and medical response procedures.
Participate in emergency drills, crisis response, and disaster planning activities.
Assist in monitoring campus health trends and implementing preventative health initiatives.
Professional Responsibilities Maintain current nursing licensure and required certifications, including CPR and other certifications required by the school.
Participate in faculty meetings, Health Team meetings, professional development, and school committees as assigned.
Maintain current knowledge of adolescent health, school nursing best practices, and applicable healthcare regulations.
Foster collaborative relationships with local healthcare providers and community partners.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Health Clinic Manager.
