The instructor is responsible for teaching Medical Assisting courses during non-traditional hours and at various campus or clinical sites. They must maintain subject matter expertise and participate in departmental meetings to support the community college mission.
Candidates must hold at least an associate degree in Medical Assisting and a current certification from AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA. A minimum of three years of occupational experience in the field, including one year of full-time experience, is required.

POSITION TITLE: ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR, Medical Assisting STATUS: Adjunct DEPARTMENT: Nursing, Health and Public Services DIVISION: Academic Affairs UNION: Adjunct Faculty – JUAC, IEA-NEA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt REPORTS TO: Department Chair PLACEMENT: Faculty Hiring Rate Per Contact Hour: Fall 2026 to Summer 2027: $1161.00 if candidate holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and $1220.00 if candidate holds a Ph.D., Ed.D, or J.D.z Competitive starting pay is dependent on education and experience. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract. Course assignments may be late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and at branch campuses or satellite centers. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Possess and maintain a thorough knowledge of the subject matter necessary to the assigned course load; and keep informed of current trends in the medical assisting field and health care. 2. Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission. 3. Teach classes during non-traditional times (evenings and weekends) and at clinical and other campus sites as needed. 4. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract. 5. Participate in appropriate departmental meetings. 6. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning. 7. Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Graduate of accredited Medical Assisting, or related program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Medical Assisting, or related field, and hold at least an associate degree; or Graduate of otherwise recognized training entity in Medical Assisting, or related field, and hold at least an associate degree; or; Graduate of institution located outside of the United States and its territories in Medical Assisting, or related field, and hold at least an associate degree. 2. Additionally, the faculty member possesses three (3) years of occupational experience in Medical Assisting or related field; 3. At least one (1) year of full time experience as a Medical Assistant 4. Hold a current certification or other credential from AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA. 5. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. 6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence. 7. Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Teaching experience at the collegiate level. 2. Experience at the community college level. 3. Experience in teaching online and/or using course management programs. 4. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds. 5. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency. 6. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
