Summary: The School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center seeks part-time nursing educators to join our faculty, staff, and students. Adjunct Clinical Instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating students in the clinical environment. This position is for the Kansas City campus and reports to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Department Chair. The position of Adjunct Instructor is considered a temporary position for the term of the contract.
Job Duties Provide timely, well-constructed feedback for direct patient care and clinical assignments. Guide students in various clinical care areas, including hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings. Collaborate with department faculty to ensure alignment with program objectives. Foster critical thinking, analytical skills, communication, and problem-solving among students. Collaborate with nursing faculty to prepare for clinical, lab, and simulation instruction. Create a clinical learning environment conducive to effective learning within resource limits. Enforce appropriate policies and expectations for students in compliance with KUMC policies. Utilize technology tools effectively, including learning management systems, e-mail, and office software. Evaluate student progress using established methods. Maintain accurate records as required by administrative guidelines and legal standards. Attend all required orientations. Attend all clinical and lab classes. Work Environment Clinical instructors will facilitate student learning in clinical settings that can include acute care, long-term care, primary care, public health departments, and schools. Clinical faculty may also be in simulation laboratories for simulation activities. Required Qualifications Education: Master's degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing. This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community. Certifications/Licenses: Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Kansas or a multi-state RN license issued by another Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Work Experience: One (1) year of relevant patient care experience.
