As an After School Sports Instructor, you'll introduce elementary and middle school students to the joy of movement, teamwork, and healthy competition through engaging after school sports programs. Whether you're coaching Flag Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Softball/Baseball, Track and Field, or another sport, you'll help young athletes build new skills while creating an environment where every participant feels welcomed, supported, and encouraged to succeed. Working alongside school districts, after school programs, and community partners, you'll create experiences that strengthen confidence, promote belonging, and help students discover what they're capable of both on and off the field. If you're passionate about coaching, mentoring young people, and making a positive impact through sports, we'd love to have you on our team. This is a grant funded, seasonal position supporting school based after school programs during the academic year. How You'll Make an Impact Coach engaging after school sports programs that help youth build athletic skills, confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Teach age appropriate instruction through practices, games, skill development, leagues, tournaments, and special events across a variety of sports. Create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where every participant feels a sense of belonging and is encouraged to reach their full potential. Build meaningful relationships with youth, families, school staff, and community partners while serving as a positive role model. Help ensure programs operate safely, effectively, and in alignment with YMCA standards while supporting a fun and rewarding experience for every participant. Schedule This is a part-time, seasonal position that follows the school calendar and is offered during the academic year on school days only. Instructors typically work 2 to 3 days per week, approximately 6 to 10 hours each week, with afternoon hours that fit well with school schedules. Depending on the program, additional opportunities may be available to support practices, tournaments, special events, family engagement activities, or staff trainings throughout the year. Who We're Looking For We're looking for enthusiastic coaches, mentors, athletes, and leaders who believe sports can change lives. The ideal candidate enjoys working with young people, creates positive and inclusive experiences, and understands that every practice is an opportunity to build confidence, character, and lifelong skills. Whether you're an experienced coach, an aspiring educator, or someone passionate about youth sports, you'll thrive in this role if you enjoy inspiring others and leading by example. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications At least 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience coaching, teaching, or leading youth sports programs in a group setting. Knowledge and experience in one or more sports such as Flag Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Softball/Baseball, Track and Field, or related athletic programs. Ability to plan and lead age appropriate sports instruction, practices, games, leagues, tournaments, and enrichment activities. Strong communication skills, emotional maturity, and the ability to build positive, authentic relationships with youth and families from diverse backgrounds.
