Job Description

Are you passionate about working with children and ensuring their safety and well-being? Capitol Language Services (CLS) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as After-School Instructors for SY 2025-2026. As an After-School Instructor, you will play a crucial role in providing a supportive and engaging environment for children during their after-school hours. We work with children PreK 3 - 5th grade.

Please note this position starts August 24, 2026 - this is not a summer position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Required availability
  • Monday to
  • Friday 3:00 to 6:00 PM. No partial weeks.
  • Engage and teach children various activities, such as arts and crafts, STEM, homework and monitor playground and snack time.
  • Ensure safety, inclusivity and prevent bullying during the program hours.
  • Adhere strictly to assigned schedules and notify any errors or inconsistencies.
  • Take attendance during every transition.
  • Manage student allergies and medical needs.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Follow protocols for inclement weather, ensuring activities are engaging and screen-free.
  • Monitor bathroom breaks.
  • Resolve minor behavioral issues by fostering peaceful resolutions.
  • Report conflicts and incidents promptly to the Program Coordinator and complete incident reports.
  • Set up, clean and store activity materials in assigned spaces.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • At least 1 year experience in childcare.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience and ability to handle various learning abilities.
  • Good references from previous employers.
  • Must be willing to undergo a DCPS background check.

Location

You will be assigned to ONE of our 3 locations in NW DC.

  • Bi-monthly attendance bonus for eligible employees for consistent attendance.
  • Potential to earn more through regular pay increases and performance bonuses, with scheduled, systematic raises.

  • Must be available for the mandatory training August 17-21. The specific dates for the training will be confirmed by the end of July.
