  • Range: $18.00 - $21.00 HourlyThe Personal Support Instructor (PSI) provides person-centered support services to individuals with developmental disabilities in accordance with Regional Center requirements and each individual's Individual Support Plan (ISP). Rather than serving as a traditional caregiver, the PSI acts as a coach, mentor, and advocate, empowering individuals to develop independent living skills, increase self-determination, and achieve meaningful personal goals. Through teaching, modeling, and positive support, the PSI promotes choice, inclusion, and community integration while ensuring services are delivered in compliance with applicable regulations and agency standards.

  • Responsibilities: Provide person-centered instruction and support to help individuals develop independent living, social, communication, and community participation skills. Implement and document progress toward individualized goals identified in each person's Individual Support Plan (ISP). Utilize positive behavior support strategies and approved behavior plans to promote success and independence. Encourage informed choice, self-advocacy, and active participation in daily routines and decision-making. Support individuals in accessing and participating in community activities, employment, volunteer opportunities, and recreational programs. Teach and model daily living skills such as meal preparation, budgeting, household management, personal care, transportation, and medication self-management, based on each individual's level of independence. Administer medications in accordance with physician orders and agency policies while accurately documenting all medication administration in the Medication Administration Record (MAR). Complete accurate, timely documentation, including daily service notes, progress reports, incident reports, and other required records in compliance with Regional Center and agency standards. Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment that promotes dignity, privacy, and individual rights. Attend required trainings, meetings, and maintain all certifications necessary to provide services. Promptly communicate attendance concerns, emergencies, incidents, or significant changes in an individual's health, behavior, or support needs to supervisors in accordance with agency procedures. Provide support during emergencies and crisis situations while following agency protocols and ensuring the health and safety of individuals served. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; college coursework in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is a plus. Valid California Driver's License, clean driving record, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation. One (1) year of experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or in a human services, behavioral health, education, or related field preferred. Ability to teach, coach, and encourage individuals in developing independent living, social, and community integration skills. Commitment to person-centered practices, promoting dignity, choice, and self-determination. Strong interpersonal, communication, documentation, and time management skills. Ability to accurately complete service documentation and maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency and Regional Center requirements. Ability to pass all required background clearances and meet agency hiring requirements. Ability to complete and maintain required certifications, including CPR/First Aid, medication administration, and agency-required training. Ability to safely assist individuals in community-based activities and respond appropriately during emergencies or behavioral crises.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED is required, and one year of experience in human services or behavioral health is preferred. Candidates must possess a valid California Driver's License, reliable transportation, and the ability to pass background clearances.
