Position Summary

Ransom Everglades School seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Freshman/Novice Rowing Coach. This is a part-time, seasonal coaching opportunity for individuals who are passionate about teaching, mentoring, and developing young student-athletes. Working within one of the nation's premier scholastic rowing programs, novice coaches play a vital role in introducing students to the sport while cultivating technical excellence, confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for rowing. Coaches are expected to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship, professionalism, and student-centered coaching that reflect the mission and values of Ransom Everglades. Essential Responsibilities Lead and supervise 4–5 afternoon practices each week throughout the season. Teach and reinforce the fundamentals of rowing technique, boat handling, and training. Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture that emphasizes personal growth, accountability, and respect. Mentor student-athletes as they develop confidence, resilience, and a strong work ethic. Ensure the safety and well-being of all athletes during land and on-the-water training. Operate and maintain a safe training environment while adhering to all program and boating safety protocols. Collaborate with the Head Coach and coaching staff to support the overall goals and philosophy of the rowing program. Serve as a positive ambassador for Ransom Everglades through professionalism, integrity, and commitment to excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous competitive rowing and/or coaching experience. Experience safely operating a coaching launch (motorboat) in a training environment. Knowledge of rowing technique, athlete development, and on-the-water safety procedures. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor high school student-athletes. A collaborative mindset and commitment to contributing to a high-performing coaching staff.

Position Details

Part-time, seasonal position. Approximately 4–5 afternoon practices per week, with weekend regatta responsibilities during the competitive season. Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. About the Program The Ransom Everglades Rowing Program is committed to developing student-athletes of character who pursue excellence both on and off the water. Coaches are expected to embrace a teaching-first philosophy while helping build an environment where every athlete is challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. Performance Factors Attendance and Dependability: The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work. Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner and is conscientious about assignments. Communication and Contact: The employee communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the School. Relationships with Others: The employee works effectively and relates well with others, including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside of the School. The employee exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships.

Requirements

Previous competitive rowing or coaching experience is preferred, along with the ability to safely operate a coaching motorboat. Candidates should possess strong leadership skills and a commitment to mentoring high school athletes.
