Provide individual and small-group tutoring in Ministry and Bible subjects to help students comprehend course material. Monitor student study habits and utilize AI tools and ethical reasoning to improve critical thinking skills.
Requires a minimum college CGPA of 3.0 and a grade of A or B in the subjects to be tutored. Candidates must have completed or be enrolled in specific biblical and theological courses and be recommended by faculty or peers.
The tutor is responsible for individual and small-group tutoring and study supervision as assigned.
Expected duties and responsibilities: ● Meet with students on a one-on-one or small group basis to provide learning assistance
● Provide specialized tutoring in specific, approved subject areas
● Answer students’ questions concerning course content
● Aid students in the comprehension of course material
● Monitor student studying
● Attend tutor training sessions as required by the Coordinator of Student Success.
● Arrive on time and prepare for each assigned session
● Conduct each session in a conscientious, professional manner
● Help students become independent learners
● Maintain schedule on Upswing for individual appointments
● Maintain a practical understanding of how to use AI tools and ethical reasoning to improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
● Model appropriate study skills and behavior.
● Complete and return all required paperwork to the LRC Office
● Notify the Coordinator of Student Success of any concerns about students
Ministry and bible skills: ● Understanding of the Old and New Testament principles and teachings
● Familiarity with using cultural context, literary analysis, and commentary analyses to understand key biblical texts
● Ability to make arguments for the bible’s credibility, truth, and reliability
● Experience in bible studies, analysis, and real-world applications
● Desire for learners to not only understand spiritual concepts but to see the Gospel transform their lives
● Adept in teaching methods to encourage learners to apply biblical teachings in their personal lives and communities
● Ability to simplify complex biblical doctrines into understandable terms for students of all faith backgrounds
● Minimum College CGPA of 3.0
● Grade of A or B in courses for which the student will provide tutoring
● Recommended by a member of the MACU Faculty, a member of the Student Affairs staff, and a MACU student peer
● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Ability to work with students from varied backgrounds, age groups, and skill levels
● Appropriate level of responsibility, reliability, punctuality, and assertiveness
Education and experience: ● Preferred continuing student
● Preferred 3rd year/Junior year student
● Preferred Bi/multilingual (Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, etc.).
● Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite
